We are on our way home from Alice Springs, it has been an interesting few days. Wednesday morning we hit a kangaroo about 20 minutes from home, which caused some damage to the car and our air conditioner on the trailer. We continued on to Erldunda and then had just a short couple of hours drive to the track on Thursday.
Getting ready for testing on Friday we discovered that the chassis had been damaged during the long bumpy drive, but it was fixed in time to get out for our one and only test run before testing was cancelled due to poor track conditions. We were worried the whole weekend would be canned like it was for our only other trip to Alice in 2023, but after working hard on the track it was decided that it was ok for 1/8th mile racing.
I top qualified on Saturday and then had Lily Horton in Round 1 where I took the win, running 8.073 on a 7.98, letting off at the end. Round 2 I had a bye and Round 3 (semi finals) I was up against Zayne Condello. I was slower on the tree by .025 so all I could do was try to push Zayne for a breakout but unfortunately he took the win. This put Zayne into the final, which he won, so congratulations to him and the Condello family.
We celebrated that night for Lachlan’s upcoming 18th birthday, thanks to everyone who came. Sunday morning we had 3 qualifiers, I was top qualifier once again with a 8.005, which we were so stoked about. Round 1 was against Zayne Condello once again, this was a nail biter being .006 at the finish line, I took the win, which was my first one against Zayne. As we top qualified, we got the bye again in Round 2, Round 3 I had Taylor Horton which was another super close race. We dialled 8.00 and ran 7.998, Taylor took the win so congratulations to him and the Horton family.
All in all, it was a very successful weekend for us reaching both semi-finals and winning both top qualifiers. I want to thank Dad for having the car spot on all weekend, to Lachlan for flying in and to Mum for all the work behind the scenes. I’d also like to say a massive thanks to the Condello family for all the laughs and for helping to fix my car. We couldn’t have done this without our sponsors so thanks to Glow Heating Cooling Electrical & Dream Works Garage.
We hope to see everyone at the Sunset Nationals, although it will depend on netball finals whether we can make it. If not, we will see you at the Round 1 Track Champs 😁
