And the fines continue. 👮🏻‍♂️👮🏻‍♂️👮🏻‍♂️

The inaugural Deny Cox day proved to provide a healthy fining ground for the Pt Neill Sheriff on Sunday.
Abe and Butch were fined for 3 putt balls ups, Abe copped a second fine for 6 pickups and 4 lost balls, like it hadn’t cost the poor fella enough in balls.
The greatest barman between Arno and Tumby copped his whack for breaking yet another club after a misdirected tee shot forced him to throw his club back into his bag.
Rick Will was fined for a 3 putt and also for interrupting another golfer by walking onto a fairway he wasn’t playing and not allowing play to flow. The other bloke was distracted and hence played a poor shot.

Grandson Brett Bray was fined after taking a 2 club length penalty drop and hitting his next into the high foliage of a tree which had to be dislodged by violent trunk shaking.
Dave Pollard copped a fine for not being forthcoming with his multiple indiscretions and planting sour sobs in the Pollard rock garden.
Mark Ward payed up for walking 9 holes, then hiring a golf cart for the back 9, taking 3 clubs cos he was too scared to hit driver and blocking up the 10th tee with the rest of his clubs, which he’d thrown out of his bag in disgust.
The sheriff will be doing an inspection of hazard markers during the week, if it goes well there could be the mother of PNGC fines to date.
The sheriff’s badge will need a polish!!

Port Neill Golf Celebrated the Denny Cox Shield .
With Perfect weather and a solid field of 17 players playing to win the inaugural title. The Cox family had 4 generation in attendance for Dennis (Denny) to ring the bell to start the card Draw and the Day. Denny first started his golfing days in 1960 when He's said a lot of learning was needed and many scores were between 120 and 150. Denny's first club championship came soon after in 1961. In 1973 Denny took on the role of club secretary and the started his unequaled 17 Port Neill golf Champion only interrupted by Geoff Will for one year in 1980 . He again won in 1992 and 93 making 20 in total. Denny also was treasurer on 5 occasions and Club Captain on 3 occasions. The early days of golf only had a 3 sided shed as a clubhouse , warm long neck beer and port but in 1976 lead by Jim Fauser the club president the current club house was built in its idyllic position now. Still in good shape passing 50 years. Dennys course record 70 nett 62 with 46 stableford point on the 10th june 1984 was only beaten by Robert Bell of Port Lincoln.
The winner of the day was Trent Bates with 39 stableford points, runner up on 37 on a count back was Ed Hunt from Steve Davidson 37,Rick Will 36,Mark Pfitzner 33, David Pollard 31,Evan Hunt 30, Kevin Nicholles 29, Jarrod Prime 28, Mason Hunt 29 (off junior tees. ) Andrew Lidicoat 26, Abe Devries 26, Paul Searle 25, Jayden Blewett 24, Mark Ward 21, Non Golfers Dustin Lienert 40 on a callaway scoring over Denny’s grandson Brett Bray 29 also in attendance was Bretts dad Scott, who 28 years previous had hit a hole in one.

The Sheriff was busy with fines for the usually mister minas , no more deserving was the Naga winner Mark Ward who presented
himself in less than average condition after just 8 stableford points on the front nine reduced his club selection to just 2 irons and a putter and slumped into a golf buggy to finish the round.
To Cap off a fantastic Day the Cox family supplied a huge afternoon tea thanks to Jody and helpers .

The Sheriff was back in town for a stroke round that turned into a stableford round for far too many of the Pt Neill golfers after 1 hole. 12 of the 16 starters were fined for submitting a stableford card instead of a stroke card.
Abe was fined for 3 putting, not once, but 4 times, also for burying his 3rd and 5th in the scrub on 1 and not giving himself a chance of breaking the magical 100.
The Lock Pope was surly after the 4th and 13th tee swallowed his balls into the scrub and was fined accordingly. His saving grace was Mr A Liddicoat, who followed him into the scrub on 13, teed up his third shot, only to have an unfortunately hilarious airey, topped off by a putter discharge on the 12th scrape. Bryce Hampel joined in the airey fines with one of his own, this information was kept from the sheriff, which resulted in his fine being doubled and leaving him broke before departing to Hamilton Island. Ian “Nobby” Noble copped his wack for impersonating a 3 yr old girl who’d received a My Little Pony instead of her favourite Barbie for Xmas. On the 15th tee box he stomped, tried to kill 3 invisible brown snakes on the tee box and took another 3 chops to get over or up and down the creek but still managed to beat D Pollard.
Dave paid up for not accruing as many points in 36 holes as he did on 18 while defeating Rick Will in the Beinke Cup match play final.
Due to this, Rick Will has a pending fine this Sunday.
The Sheriff and the club look forward to seeing as many as possible this Sunday for the Dennis Cox Shield. Names in by 10:30am this Sunday 26th.

Port Neill 9 am start was a good idea because we finish early. But knocking the dew off the grass having wet feet and looking into the low sun was challenging but spectacular your ball skipping on grass looked like a skipping stone across a lake bring up a shower of water before stalling to a stop. Half the field had retired from the stroke competition after the first two holes. Steve Davidson weathered the first few hole and put together his best ever score 91 nett 69, Mark Pfitzner had 4 sixes on his card to start the round only getting his first par on hole 9 83/nett 71. Bryce Hampels first nine was looking good with 19 Stableford points , 48 off the stick. But a 12 on number 10 was a rough start to the back nine. But to his credit finished the card 106/ nett 83. Andrew Liddicoat stuck with it 110 swings 109 hits nett 87. Those with less resolve were well lead by Ian Noble 36 stableford ,Wayne McLaughlin 32. Jarrod Prime 27 , Abe Devries 27, Paul Searle 25 and David Pollard 17, a big fall from great heights after his Match play win.
Secretary Leanne once again ( injured) had the pies piping hot and all the book keeping in hand perfectly.

Next week Port Neill golf again starts early , 10.30 names in and 11 am hit off for the Denny Cox annual shield.
Denny has been a club champion many a time in the early years of the club history.
