(2025 LIONHEART) Work! It’s been almost a year since Lionheart arrived back in Victoria. Lot of progress made yet lots more to do. Sanding has got to be my least favourite.

(2025 PORTLAND ROADS) As partners in Portland Roads, my brother Beau and I have shared many adventures over the years. From learning to sail together along the Queensland coast to years later hitting a reef off Cooktown aboard the ketch Kijana, somehow surviving that and continuing to south east Asia and exploring the jungles of Borneo. We set sail from Palau once and within the first day broke a back stay and lost our mizzen mast. We got to spend another 2 weeks on the beach making repairs - all part of the adventure and all part of the fun. When we sold the Wharram catamaran for the Schooner Majestic it was Beau who delivered the new vessel from Indonesia to PNG, spending half the voyage in the engine room repairing bilge pumps with spares from other broken bilge pumps. Often thrown in the deep end and never complaining, we’ve been through the fire together and had more than our fair share of wonderful moments together. Now with families of our own, we continue to share what we love with those we love, combining everything we’ve learnt over the years and still always trying to perfect the passage plan, the boat and the experience.

(2025 PORTLAND ROADS) Did you know that anyone can hire a cruising catamaran and sail the Whitsunday Islands without a license? If you have ever wondered if living aboard a yacht could be something for you and your family, why not try it for a week aboard Portland Roads. Just remember to come back.

(2007 SCHOONER MAJESTIC) Built in Indonesia from an East coat USA design, we sailed Majestic around the islands of PNG for nearly a year before she ran into trouble. Whilst out of the country her engine room flooded, due to her leaky caulking, which ended the life of her old tractor engine. First she was towed to Lae for a new engine install, then relocated to Madang slipway for re-caulking. By the end of it all we were exhausted, and financially at our end having lost our forward charter bookings. Reluctantly we sold our lovely ship in Madang. Some months later she sank in the harbour, the full extent of the story we are still unclear on.

(LIONHEART 2024) Found these photos from 24 years ago tucked away in the chart table. I’d forgotten about the gooseneck barnacles and how many were stuck to the hull by the end of the voyage. I’ve been telling people I’m a slow sailor, I forgot though that I had an excuse.
