Here’s what was biting and where.
West Coast:
Salmon have fired up with fishing being caught to 4Kg being reported from multiple spots. With the Salmon Comp starting, most anglers are heading to Talia and Locks Well, but any beach can produce big salmon at the moment. Malosi Marksman and Oceans Legacy Slingshot lures have been the better performers, or salted pilchards for those who like to relax and fish.
Offshore has been quiet this week due to the weather.
Venus and Streaky Bays have been good for plenty of King George Whiting on prawns or cockles. Fishing either side of the high tide with a bit of berley has been the most productive time. Other fish in these bays are Garfish, Snook, Silver Trevally, Salmon Trout, Tommys and Flathead.
The Let’s Go Fishing Comp is back on with Flathead and Salmon being the target species in Elliston! It’ll definitely be worth going for a trip with both competitions going on in the area.
Coffin Bay:
King George Whiting have been reported around the Ledge, Leases, and on the flats around town. Goolwa Cockles or prawns have been the better baits. Fishing when the water slows down a bit around the high tide, using a bit of berley has been the best time.
Flathead have been caught on Bait Ju**ie soft plastics fished around any structure.
Salmon, Tommys, Garfish and Snook have also been reported right around the bays.
Farm Beach has been producing plenty of Snook, Salmon and King George Whiting to 40cm around the high tide or very early in the morning.
Early in the week anglers going offshore were successful in catching Nannygai, Blue Morwong, Gummy Sharks and lots of School Sharks.
Almonta – Gunyah beaches have been good for Salmon to 3KG. Metal lures like the Slingshot or Ridgebacks have been working very well for the school fish.
Port Lincoln:
King George Whiting are around in consistent numbers. North Shore, Boston Bay, Town Jetty and Wharf, Proper Bay, Thistle Island and Spalding Cove have all had good reports of Whiting to 40cm this week. Local Prawns or Goolwa Cockles have been the better baits with some good Whiting Pellets for Berley have been the best way to get a bag limit.
Flathead are being caught throughout the bays and National Park, as well as Snook and Salmon. Garfish are being caught consistently both land based with Gents, and while dabbing between the town jetty and Lincoln Hotel.
Offshore reports have been quiet since the weekend, but those who enjoyed the calm weather last week were catching Nannygai, Queen Snapper, Samsonfish and Gummy Sharks. Unfortunately, Snapper are thick throughout some areas, so it’s best to move on to another spot when they’re starting to bite.
Tumby Bay:
King George Whiting to 43cm, Snook and some good-sized Salmon were reported at the Group.
In the bay King George Whiting were reported around the Island and hospital grounds. Beaches surrounding Tumby Bay have been good for Flathead.
Port Neill:
Reports have been quiet, but those who did fish in the are caught King George Whiting, Garfish, Salmon and Garfish.
