The wind is up and the swell is pumping, so Saturday will be a pretty wild one anywhere outside the bays. Luckily, there are still plenty of options close to home, with good numbers of King George Whiting being caught inside Proper Bay and Boston Bay.

Fishing the low light periods has been producing the best results, with fresh Prawns and Squid seeing most of the action. A steady Pilchard burley trail will also help improve catch rates and keep fish moving through the area.

With the wind dropping and the swell backing off throughout the day, Sunday is shaping up as the perfect chance to get offshore. The reefs wide of Coffin Bay and Port Lincoln should fish really well, especially after not seeing a lot of pressure lately.

Vexed Bottom Meats continue to be the standout on the reefs and are producing a wide variety of fish, making them hard to beat if you're chasing a feed. Itโ€™s also worth keeping an eye out for XL Tuna. With the run slowing down off Kangaroo Island, thereโ€™s every chance these bigger fish could now be pushing closer to our local grounds.

The winter weather has been a bit damper this week with really only a few of the main winter spots firing. Salmon are all over the place, Whiting are really starting to kick in, School Sharks are firing all along the West Coast and Flathead are still a good prospect but numbers of fish being caught are starting to drop off now as winter sets in. Offshore reports have dried up due to the weather.

Hereโ€™s what has been happening over the last week.

E๐ฅl๐ขs๐ญo๐ง
Salmon fishing has been excellent at Locks Well and Talia, these two beaches have been standouts with fish around the 3kg mark being consistent catches and lure fishing and baits will get the job done. Thereโ€™s also lots of smaller fish from these beaches like Flathead, Mullet and some big Tommies. If the water is clear enough thereโ€™s some big Squid off of the jetty.

Venus Bay has been a bit hit and miss on the Whiting but if your there for a week or two you will get a few good days in each week on the Whiting to make a trip there worthwhile. School Sharks are also good from Sheringa to Streaky Bay from a number of rock and beach areas. Multiple Sharks can be caught in a session with most fishers taking their one Shark and releasing the rest.

C๐จf๐Ÿi๐ง ๐a๐ฒ
Whiting are in good numbers again this week with plenty of fish being caught from many rock areas within Coffin Bay and also at Dutton Bay, you donโ€™t need a boat just a good casting rod. There are Flathead being caught just not in the big numbers now but still some very big fish with soft plastics being the go too and the Daiwa Bait Ju**ie 5 inch jerk shad in then creaming soda colour being very good, the Arma Paddle Tails and Jackson Bone Baits also very good for the Flathead. Tommies and Salmon Trout are also very good to target within the bays with plenty around.

Farm Beach fishers should have no problems with Whiting out on the Whiting grounds with plenty being reported from many areas. Vexed Micro Meat jigs have been excellent on the Whiting.

Salmon fishers have been catching the best numbers of Salmon from Greenly and Convention beaches but they are mixed sized fish here and 1-3kg and it sounds like a bit of a lucky dip as to what you get. Almonta and Gunyah also have Salmon but there have been less reports. Schools Sharks can be found from many areas between Frenchmanโ€™s and Mount Drummond, most have been caught from deep water rock spots at night or late afternoon. The Coffin Bay National Park also has some good School Sharks coming from Point Avoid and further up in the park on the ocean side of the park.

P๐จr๐ญ ๐‹i๐งc๐จl๐ง
For land based fishers thereโ€™s Whiting on the North Shore and Tulka and also Flathead are still being caught on the North Shore and also in the National Park. Boat fishers seem to be going really on the Whiting on the North Shore now and thereโ€™s good schools of Garfish also, all mostly big ones. Thereโ€™s a few Whiting in the proper also. The Z-Man plastic worms have been good on the local Whiting and also the Nomad Squidtrex in the 55 and 65mm sizes if you want to try something different.

Down the coast the fishing has been a bit slower in the Passage but there are still plenty of fish there and you should be able to catch a feed. There are some good schools of big Garfish around Mclarens Point and with our new fresh GENTS in store, you should hook up plenty. Thereโ€™s also big Snook mostly around Taylors Landing and Thistle Island. There are some big Gummy Sharks around Thistle Island if your after something a bit bigger.

On the south coast thereโ€™s big schools of Salmon all along from Wreck Beach to Wanna. The Salmon Hole has been quite good and lure fishing has been the way to go with Jackson Metal Effects, Buku Flutter Bombs and the Daiwa Saltiga stick baits excellent for the Salmon.

T๐ฎm๐›y B๐šy/P๐จr๐ญ ๐e๐ขl๐ฅ/๐€r๐งo B๐šy
The first of the winter blood worm runs should now be on the way so fishing most likely will slow down over the new moon period in these areas. There are Flathead being caught from beaches in the area from Bollingbroke, around Port Neillโ€™s beaches and a few areas north of Arno thereโ€™s a few good Flathead showing up. Whiting, Garfish and Snook are the other fish species reported from these areas.

Saturday is the tougher day of the two. Strong winds and a solid swell mean it's best to forget heading wide and focus on the sheltered bays. Inside Coffin Bay is where I'd be looking, with the oyster lease areas and sheltered corners of the bay producing some nice King George Whiting.

Fresh Prawns and Cockles rigged on the Vexed Micro Meats continue to be the standout baits, and a light Pilchard burley trail will help keep fish in the area. Expect the better bite periods around the high tides and during the low-light windows.

S๐ฎn๐a๐ฒ
๐ŸŒฌ Wind: NE 5โ€“10 knots, tending E/NE 10โ€“15 knots later
๐ŸŒŠ Swell: 2โ€“3m

Sunday is shaping up much better and should open up a few more options. The coastline from Sleaford through to Wanna is holding quite a few schools of Australian Salmon at the moment, with most fish ranging in the 2โ€“3kg size range.

Driving the tracks and looking for active schools is proving to be the most productive method right now, allowing you to stay mobile and fish where the action is. Arma Nuggets have been performing really well and will give you the casting distance needed to reach fish cruising further offshore.

If you prefer a more relaxed style of fishing, finding a deep gutter close to shore and soaking a few Pilchards is also producing plenty of fish. It's a simple but effective way to spend the day and often accounts for some of the better Salmon of the session.

Good reports this week with some decent weather over the weekend with plenty of fish out there to be caught. Salmon, Whiting, Flathead and School Sharks are in abundance right now and they are the most reported fish being caught right now. The weather is a mixed bag with at least a few good days each week between the average ones.

Hereโ€™s what has been caught over the last week.

๐„l๐ฅi๐ฌt๐จn
Salmon have been caught from all beaches in the area. Sheringa, Locks Well, Talia and Mount Camel. Sizes vary from 1-3kg from most beaches with a few bigger ones from Taila. Thereโ€™s also some big Flathead and big Tommies from many of these beaches also. Lure fishing has been good for the Salmon with Buku Flutter Bombs, Arma Flash Harrys and Jackson Metal Effects excellent casting lures. School Sharks are also a good option for those fishing after dark from the beaches with Sheringa and Talia holding some good numbers. There are also plenty of rock areas from Sheringa to Streaky Bay that also hold good numbers of School Sharks.

There havenโ€™t been many other reports from further west this week.

๐‚o๐Ÿf๐ขn B๐šy
Thereโ€™s been some good numbers of Whiting reported in the last week within the bays, many of the fish have been caught land-based with fish coming in from the rock areas within Dutton Bay, Seal Corner, the Ledge, Snapper Rocks and the boat ramp.

Boat fishers also donโ€™t have to venture to far to catch a decent feed of Whiting, there are many more areas not far the ramp that are producing some good Whiting catches. Flathead are the next fish on the list for many fishers at Coffin Bay with no shortage of them, there has been some good fish around the 60cm mark caught this week within the bays and also at Frenchmanโ€™s โ€“ Coles Point and also within the National Park between Point Longnose and Sir Isaacโ€™s for the land-based fishers.

Boat fishers will also find a few Flathead casting soft plastics in close to the shore in these areas and the best plastics once again have been the Arma Paddle tails, Daiwa Bait Ju**ie Jerk Shad in the creaming soda colour and the Nomad Prawns.
Farm Beach is fishing really well for Whiting with no shortage of decent sized fish there but most areas are fishing well, with the Vexed Micro Meat jigs and the Z-Man plastic worms continue to perform really well for those not wanting to use bait or want to try less bait.

In the deeper water off of Farm Beach and Coles Point thereโ€™s good numbers of School Sharks and also a few Gummy Sharks lurking around.

Offshore itโ€™s the same on the reefs for the Sharks and then thereโ€™s good numbers of Nannygai and a few Blue Morwong.

For Salmon they are just about at all the good Salmon beaches in the area, you just need the good weather conditions and you will catch fish.

๐o๐ซt L๐ขn๐œo๐ฅn
Some decent sized Flathead have been caught by lure casters along the North Shore and the also within the National Park, pick the big afternoon tides for the best chance of success. King George Whiting have been very good along the North Shore and at Tulka there has been better numbers caught from the rocks.

Boat fishers have also seen an improvement in Whiting numbers in the bays with the North Shore and the Proper improving. Down the coast Thistle and Taylors have been much better for Whiting and they can also be caught at McLarens and Carcase Rock, these are much better sized fish.

Offshore thereโ€™s been Nannygai, Blue Morwong and School Sharks mostly but thereโ€™s also Samson Fish out there on the reefs. Vexed Bottom Meat jigs have been highly effective on these fish.

Salmon fishing has been also very good at Sleaford, there are good schools of fish around off the coast down there. When the weather is good you should have no problems catching fish and lure fishing has been the way to go.

T๐ฎm๐›y B๐šy
Thereโ€™s some decent Flathead getting around off the beaches south of Tumby and all mostly caught on soft plastics but also drifting around whole Pilchards can also be highly effective. Whiting fishing has improved at The Group and also inshore, Garfish and Snook are also worth chasing here in close and also at The Group. The Group also has some Trevally and also Gummy Sharks.

P๐จr๐ญ ๐e๐ขl๐ฅ ๐šn๐ ๐€r๐งo B๐šy
Whiting fishing has improved and thereโ€™s some whopper fish at Arno Bay. Snook and Garfish are good and thereโ€™s some Tommies worth catching for the smoker. Thereโ€™s Flathead at both areas off of the beaches and thereโ€™s some good ones too and all mostly caught on soft plastics.

Salmon are still around on the beaches at Lipson Cove, smaller fish but fun to catch on lures or lighter line.

This weeks photos are courtesy of:

Iluka Rankine Cox: Caught an excellent 50cm Flathead at Coffin Bay.

Nathan Emming: Again some great Flathead caught at Smoky Bay with the biggest going around 60cm mark.

Steph Bissell: Plenty of Salmon Trout caught at the marina in Port Lincoln.
