What a weekend, we competed at the WA State Series final.
We started out feeling good about both karts in the lead up to the event.
However, the racing gods shined on one half of our team and not the other.
William showed great pace throughout the entire event from practice to the final. He didn’t have it easy with a miscommunication for qualifying, he’d forgotten to fit the transponder and didn’t register a time and had to start rear of field for heat 1.
He managed to make quick work of the field taking first for the heat.
Heat 2 had him DNF after some contact with another kart at T2.
In heat 3 Starting from the rear again, he managed to get back to first again.
In the final he started from pole and didn’t get the jump on the others having to settle for 2nd place until Mat Chambers made a little mistake and William snatched first for the win.
Making this Williams first open event win ever and with the points obtained on the day, not only managed the win for the day, and grabbed 3rd for the series championship as well.
Well done young fella, we could not be more proud of your development and determination to win throughout the year.
Williams Grandmother (Helen), flew into watch the racing and was pleasantly surprised with his maturity racing whilst competing in a field made up of mostly over 40year old racers.
Greg on the other hand, was plagued with mechanical issues all weekend and managed 2 sessions with both motors before removing a motor and running single for 3races.
This meant that as a single he needed to weigh in at 135kg driver and kart, Greg ultimately ran 30kg over the class weight which resulted in not the overall performance we were hoping for the team.
Apart from the mechanical challenges over the weekend, it was great to catch up with our mates and meet some new people.
All this could not be possible without the amazing support from our family, friends and our sponsors.
