The Willsden Football Club was established as a sporting body in 1957 and in the first three years of its history, was represented at football in the Flinders Football League. The Club joined the Port Augusta Football League in 1960, thus making four teams in that League
In 1961, the Spencer Gulf Football L

eague was formed and comprised four teams each of the cities of Port Augusta, Port Pirie and Whyalla, at total of twelve teams. In 1967, the SGFL was reorganised with the eight teams from Port Augusta and Port Pirie being the participants. From it inception the Willsden Football Club did not enjoy much success on the football field, however in 1978, the “Wolves” team which had been known as the Cinderella side of the League and one which had been the subject of derision by the cynics ever since the Club’s formation, rose from the depths of obscurity to a fighting force and went on to play in the Grand Final. The Willsden Football Club had to wait another eight years (1986); to play in another SGL Grand Final, and bury the demons of the 1978 Grand Final lost Centrals. And they did by winning by a record margin over West Augusta.
