The U12 Porepunkah Panthers were back on home soil this week, taking on Wangaratta Black in what proved to be a high-energy game of baseball.
The Panthers took the field first and wasted no time getting into the action, with Billy Scorsis recording a sharp ground-ball out to open the game and set the tone for the innings. The Wangaratta batters came ready to swing, consistently finding good contact and keeping the Panthers busy across the diamond. Despite the pressure, the Panthers never stopped competing. Archer Harris showed plenty of hustle in the field, Jimi Rocket Jagger was his usual energetic self around the ball, and Nick Giuliano came up with several important plays to help keep the visitors honest throughout the day.
With the bats in hand, Zoe Caswell led the way with a strong hitting performance, while Rylan McCormack, Casey Pronk and Austin Scorsis all found the sweet spot and drove the ball into play. Every at-bat was fiercely contested, with the Panthers making Wangaratta work hard for every out.
While the final result may not have gone the Panthers’ way, there was plenty to like from the home side. Against a strong Wangaratta lineup, the game was packed with action, quality hitting and plenty of hustle around the diamond. The Panthers matched the intensity all day, bringing great energy both in the field and at the plate.
With smiles on faces and dirty uniforms, the Panther cubs will be looking forward to getting back on the diamond next week for another Porepunkah home game. 🐾⚾
The C Grade Panthers experienced the batting power of the visiting Wangaratta Rangers Baseball orange team, and know why they are the Grade leaders. 13 runs from 10 safe hits and 11 stolen bases in the 1st 2 innings put the pressure on the fielders to stem this onslaught. 2nd base, Victoria Schmidt threw out 1 batter, as did James Rogers from shortstop in the 3rd innings. 3rd baseman, Jimmy Hughes, held a high fly ball, as did Wade Pronk in left field. Wade started on the mound, but wasn’t as sharp as his last outing, although he still picked up 2 strikeouts. Rory Clarke took over in the 2nd innings and finished the game with a strikeout, giving up only 1 walk. The Panther batters were able to score in each of their innings, always a good sign. Evergreen, Randy Skippen scored the 1st run after scorching a flat hit along the right field line for 2 bases, then a steel and a wild pitch saw him open the account. In the 2nd, Wes Booth accepted the walk and scored on a ā€œsacrificeā€ hit by Jimmy. Victoria was hit by a pitch to start the 3rd, and when James was again walked, both took advantage of wild pitches to score. Final score, Wangaratta 14 defeated Punkah 4. Next week, the Wangaratta Black team visit, and the Panthers will welcome back at least 3 of its regular players in a must win match.
Panthers B Grade were at home on Sunday to the top of the ladder, Wodonga White side. Both sides were down a few players, Porepunkah in particular were without the Anders brothers (Dean & Heath) along with Mason Anders and Rian Banks, taking a lot of experience out of the line-up but giving others the opportunity to step up.
And step up they did, Luca Barthelmes pitched 3 innings, allowing 7 runs and Jarrod Smith pitched one scoreless inning to complete the game.
Wodonga Warriors Baseball Club White jumped out, scoring 2 runs in their first inning, but Porepunkah replied with 3 runs through hits to Damon Barker and Paul Meddings. Walks to Randy Skippen, Josh Harris and Jarrod Smith helped to apply pressure to the Wodonga fielders.
Wodonga then followed up with another 4 runs. Porepunkah getting out of the inning through catches to Josh and Jarrod and an out at first case between catcher Damon and first baseman Randy.
Porepunkah again replied with 4 runs through hits to Damon and Paul once more, and another 3 walks helped the Panthers cause.
Wodonga then scored one run in their next inning, a solid outfield catch to Andrew Smith helping to limit the visitors scoring. Porepunkah were then unable to capitalise on youngster Rory Clarkes lead off hit, being held scoreless and leaving the game tied at 7 each.
Porepunkah were able to keep the Warriors scoreless in the top half of the fourth inning, leaving the Panthers only needing to score to win the game. This they did, finally winning a tight tussle 8 runs to 7.
The win puts the Panthers in a tie for the top spot on the ladder, with the club looking to improve further in the 2nd half of the season in a run towards the finals.

Next weekend, Porepunkah will be playing at home again vs. Wangaratta Rangers Baseball Black

Big news, Panthers family! šŸ¾āš¾ļø

We have just cleared a major hurdle for our Multi-Use Clubhouse and Lighting project!

The Cultural Heritage Management Plan (CHMP) is now not required for our building and lighting footprint, successfully resolving a 43-month approvals process.

With this final statutory barrier cleared, our planning permit application has been officially called in for a formal determination vote at the Ordinary Alpine Shire Council Meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

This meeting will be a critical moment for the future of this community project, and we need a strong show of support. Lock the date in your diaries—we would love to see as many players, families, and supporters there as possible to help us get this project over the line!

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the night.

The Club would like to acknowledge funding support received from the Australian Government’s Growing Regions Program for this Project.

Best of luck this weekend for our Panthers Damon, Adam, Josh and Lachie. Go Panthers šŸ‘Š

The U 12 Porepunkah Panthers took on the North Albury Bears Baseball Club Green in round 6. In a week that the league was trialling a 'fully loaded' rule, whereby runners started on base at the start of every inning, it was certainly action aplenty. The first innings saw Archer Harris take a nice catch and also combine with first base Zoe Caswell for the other out in the innings. The 3rd inning had Ollie Smith from pitchers’ position, combine with Sophie Giulliano for 2 of the outs and an unassisted out to Casy Pronk in short stop for the 3rd out. In the 4th Inning, Nick Giulliano was involved in all three of the outs, holding 2 throws from now 2nd baseman Pronk and fielding one himself.
The Panthers certainly had their hitting cleats on in the batting box. Jimmi Rocket Jagger found contact but was put out with his at bats. Smith and Hanna Caswell both recorded 1 single base hit. Harris, Billy Scorsis, S Giulliano, Austin Scorsis, Byron Smith and Pronk all recording 2 single base hits. Zoe Caswell, sending the ball deepest of all, with 2 doubles for the day.

The 15's for the Panthers also took on the North Albury Bears Baseball Club Green at Targoora park in Wangaratta. Rory Cark stepped on the hill first for the Panthers. The righty surrendered 6 hits and 6 runs over his 3 innings, striking out 2 and walking 0. The first 2 innings saw a 1–0 ball game before the Bears had 2 big 5 run innings in the 3rd and 4th. In the top of the first, shortstop Paige Anders combined with Hunter Harris at 1st for an out and held a nice fly ball. In the second innings, Clark was involved in all outs, including some swift work from Rylan Harris, who was behind the dish, to tag out a runner stealing home. Hunter Harris came on in relief, with the hurler giving up 5 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks. Harris showing some growth on the mound regarding various pitches, including a few 'change ups' now in his arsenal.
It was a tough day in the batter’s box for the Panthers, with The Bears Harlen Gambier throwing some definite Heat. There were some great swings from Zakk Pudubinski, Yuna Meddings and Leo Harrison, trying to step up to the challenge. Anders received 2 walks, and was an RBI for Clark, who hit a big double in the 4th to bring her home. The final result 11–1 Bears way.

The Panthers C Grade continued their good recent form against the Wodonga Warriors Baseball Club, finishing strongly to run out 13–4 winners. Starting pitcher, Wade Pronk, was in form, going 3 strong innings for 3 strikeouts and allowing only 3 runs from 4 hits and 3 walks. He also helped himself by pe***ng out 2 runners attempting to steal away from 1st base. The closer, Paige Anders, needed only 4 batters to seal the game, striking out 1 batter and allowing only infield contact hits from the others. Wes Booth did the duties behind the home plate and played his part in restricting the opposition to just 6 stolen bases. The last out by the Panthers was an accurate throw to 3rd base for a tag out play by Jason Brown. Randy was a safe pair of hands at 1st base, while Ethan Edwards turned a double play after taking a catch at shortstop. Although Randy hit a double in his 1st at bat, the Panthers were slow to score, taking until the 3rd innings to score 5 runs, and the lead. Their last effort resulted in 7 runners scoring. Jason had 2 single base hits, while Ethan had a single and a double. The Panther runners created a lot of pressure on the fielders. 17 bases were stolen and 5 runners able to cross the plate on wild pitches. Paige and Victoria Schmidt showed good patience in the batting box, with 2 walks each. Rookie, Harvey Beveridge, used his opportunity to get around the bases to score as well. Everyone has the long weekend off, our next game is scheduled at home, B grade will play Wodonga Warriors Baseball Club White, C grade and under 12's will be playing Wangaratta Rangers Baseball Black with our under 15's have a bye that week.
