Pooncarie Racing Club With a long and proud history, the Pooncarie Racing Club was established in 1891 with the annual Pooncarie Cup being held each Spring.

The annual Pooncarie Cup is an enjoyable unique outback experience with traditional country horse racing. The township of Pooncarie is set on the banks of the Darling River making it a fantastic opportunity to bring along the family for a fun weekend of outback racing, camping & fishing. Pooncarie is easily accessible on a sealed road, 115km North-East of Wentworth.

Driving to Pooncarie from Mildura/Buronga and wanting to stay on a SEALED road?
Head out towards Coomealla, turn right onto Fletchers Lake Road and follow that until you reach the T-intersection. Turn right onto the Wentworth-Pooncarie Road and follow that all the way to Pooncarie.
Google maps will try to send you via Arumpo/Wamberra Road - DO NOT go that way unless you want to travel on dirt/unsealed roads.
Please drive carefully and be aware of wildlife and livestock along the way.

🏇 The Pooncarie Races are almost here!

Make a weekend of it on the Darling River Run when the Pooncarie Cup returns on Saturday 19 September 2026.

Enjoy a classic outback race day featuring a six-race program, including the Pooncarie Cup, plus Fashions on the Field, children’s activities, on-course tote and bookmakers, food and bar facilities.

🏕️ Stay by the Darling

Set up camp beneath the river red gums at Pooncarie Multi Purpose Park, where powered and unpowered camping is available within walking distance of town. Facilities include toilets, hot showers, barbecues, a dump point and boat ramp. Powered sites are limited and offered on a first-in basis, so arrive early.

Motel accommodation is also available at the Pooncarie Telegraph Hotel—contact the venue directly for availability.

🎸 Keep the celebrations going

After the final race, head to the Pooncarie Telegraph Hotel for the official after-party. The Incredibles will be playing live and loud, with food available from Nick’s Charcoal Catering.
