🏆 STJFL Community Volunteer Umpire of the Year 🏆

Congratulations to Jordan Broughton on being named the STJFL Community Volunteer Umpire of the Year for 2026.

Jordan's contribution to our club extends far beyond officiating games. As the regular umpire for our U12 Boys, he has consistently created an environment where games are fair, well-managed, and played in the spirit that junior football should be.

What makes Jordan's contribution particularly valuable is the role he plays in developing our youth umpires. He has regularly welcomed them to run alongside him, learn in a real game-day environment, and gain the experience and confidence that can only come from being out on the field with an exceptional umpire. His calm approach, willingness to share his knowledge, and genuine investment in their development has helped young umpires build the skills and belief needed to progress their umpiring journey.

The impact of that support is already being seen, with young officials growing in confidence and taking the next steps into STJFL umpiring. In doing so, Jordan isn't just supporting individual umpires, he's helping strengthen the future of umpiring within our club and the wider football community.

Jordan is a fantastic role model who brings fairness, respect, and a genuine passion for junior football to everything he does. This recognition is incredibly well deserved, and we are proud to see his contribution acknowledged at an STJFL level.

As another fantastic season comes to a close, Brighton Junior Football Club would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to making 2026 such a success.

Our club simply could not operate without the incredible efforts of our volunteers. Every single coach, team manager, runner and team helper is a volunteer, and we are so grateful for the time, energy and expertise they give throughout the season.

A special thank you to the parents and families who continually step up to ensure every team has the volunteers required to participate each week. Your support behind the scenes makes all the difference. To our coaches and Team Managers in particular, thank you for your passion, dedication and commitment to the kids of Brighton JFC. The positive impact you have on our players extends far beyond football.

We would also like to acknowledge our committee members, whose countless hours of work ensure the club continues to provide a positive, welcoming and well-run environment for all. Brighton JFC only exists because of the generosity of volunteers across every level of the club.

To our parents and families, thank you for your encouragement, support and commitment throughout the season. And to our amazing players, thank you for the hard work, enthusiasm and fun you bring to every training session and game. We are incredibly proud of the way you have embraced the AFL's Learning Life Through Sport (LLTS) principles and lived our club values of Sportsmanship, Respect and Try Your Hardest.

Support Young Umpires
Parents and coaches play a powerful role in shaping the game day experience.
Your players are learning. So are our young umpires.
Many of the umpires officiating junior football are teenagers developing their confidence, decision-making and leadership skills every time they step onto the field. They will make mistakes, just as players do. That's how learning happens.

Coaches set the standard for everyone around them. Players watch your behaviour. Parents follow your lead. Young umpires feel the impact of your words and actions.
Together, we ask all parents and coaches to:
• Encourage all young people involved in the game.
• Respect umpiring decisions, even when you disagree.
• Model positive behaviour from the sidelines and within the coaches' box.
• Challenge inappropriate behaviour when you see it.
• Help young players understand that respect for umpires is part of being a good sport.
• Remember that every umpire is somebody's child.

A positive comment can build confidence.
A negative comment can stay with a young person long after the final siren.
Football cannot happen without umpires. Many of today's junior umpires are tomorrow's senior officials, coaches, leaders and role models.
Let's work together to ensure every young umpire leaves the ground feeling respected, supported and valued, regardless of the result.
Lead with respect. Support our umpires. Protect the future of our game.
Because every young umpire deserves the same encouragement, patience and respect that we expect for our players.
