While Amina Orfi recently became the youngest world champion in history at 18 y.o. and we have 16 girls aged 23 or less in the world top 50, one player continues to break ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐น๐ผ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฑ๐ โฌ๏ธ
๐ This week, ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐น๐ฑ ๐ก๐ผ. ๐ญ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐น๐ฑ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐บ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ผ๐ป Rachael Grinham ๐ฆ๐บ - whoโll turn 50 on January 22, 2027 - is competing in the Bega Open, a 15k Challenger event. On Wednesday, she came through round 1 against fellow Australian Erin Classen ( #139, aged 21) whom sheโd lost to at the Australian Nationals a few weeks ago. In the round of 16, Grinham will face Hong Kongโs Po Yui Kirstie Wong (aged 22, ranked 108).
๐ Although she focuses solely on events in her home country, the Aussie is still very much an active player: the ongoing tournament is her ๐ฒ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐๐ต ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฑ/๐ฎ๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ป, and sheโs got two more 3k events on schedule in August.
๐ Fun fact: out of the 22 other entrants in Bega, ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ปโ๐ ๐ฏ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ป when Rachael Grinham made her professional debut at the 1994 World Open!
