When it comes to making snack balls, there is no magic recipe! The base starts with dates (stick it all together), then you add your protein - in my case I have to make nut free for school lunches, then your flavour of choice.
As you can see, I line up my ingredients and it's literally a little bit of this and a little bit of that! To my dates, I add goji berries, papitas (pumpkin seeds), sunflower seeds, chia seeds and oats to the food processor. To make them a bit Chocolatey I added cacao powder and a dash of vanilla extract. The trick is to taste and adjust and not make them too big, keep them bite size 👍 keep refrigerated

Definitely worth a read for anyone tempted by a 'diet' (especially new marketing aimed at the 'psychology' behind what we eat).

If you're watching mainstream TV tonight, take note of how many diet programs are being advertised - be aware of the different techniques they use to convince consumers that their way will work.

Don't let repackaged diet culture like Noom fool you.

Finally found the strength to cook this dinner tonight after putting it off all week! I love having fresh meals in summer but have never been a big fan of a garden salad (neither are my kids!). This corn, cucumber, tomato, avocado, coriander and cranberry salad (drizzled with some olive oil) is a game changer! Super simple, (add what you like, remove what you don't), very easy and nutritious.
I paired this with some dukka spiced grilled chicken.

So, let's tick off the macros:

: cucumber, tomatoes, corn and a sprinkling of dried cranberries (packed with fibre, vitamins and minerals) ✅

: chicken, dukkah (I used with almonds, sesame seeds, roasted chickpeas and spices- delish!) ✅

: avocado 🥑, extra virgin olive oil ✅

And there are ❤️

Happy New Year everyone! Wishing you a 2022 full of great health and happiness.

Thank you to my incredible 'fit fam and friends' for your ongoing support and love. I've felt it more than ever over the last several months.

For those who were unaware, I have been struggling with my health for a while (non-covid related). It's taken so long to decide whether to keep my health private, or share to promote awareness of self-advocacy when it comes to your body's health, and to never give up when you know something isn't right. I finally received a diagnosis in September. If you would like to know more, I have written a 'condensed' version of my journey in the hope it may help, comfort, educate and empower others. No one knows your body better than you. Attached is a link to my story.

At this stage, I will take indefinite leave as a personal trainer / group fitness coach until further notice. I will do my best to make myself available for any advice, motivation and / or knowledge for those who need it, and aim to post on socials with new recipes and ideas to help you with your health and fitness journey. On that note, with a new year comes plenty of resolutions...my advice is to avoid fad diets (including clever marketing aimed to make you think their program isn't a diet), as those ads are funded by businesses that want your money. There is NO 'one-size-fits-all' when it comes to nutrition. Give your money to a fully qualified dietician / nutritionist who will assess you and your needs.

Take care, stay safe, and learn to listen to your bodies ###x

I have always LOVED Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) but have never attempted to make it...until today!

The most satisfying, filling, tastiest recipe made quickly and (fairly) easily! My 7 year old LOVED it and couldn't even finish a small serve (anyone with kids will understand how incredible it is to find something kids a) will eat and b) fill them up!)

This recipe is said to serve 4...I would say it feeds more like 6-8 depending on your hunger!

Some advice if you're using this recipe - sorry Jamie but once flipped onto my board (didn't have a big enough plate) there was no easy way of getting it back into the pan! Next time I will make individual serves vs one large pancake!

Give it a go! Loads of colourful veg = loads of disease fighting chemicals (phytochemicals).

Time for another quick, easy and nutritious recipe!

Pizza Pinwheels cooked in the AIR FRYER!! (Or oven if you don't have an air fryer). The beauty of this recipe is the 2 ingredient dough:

Self raising flour
Greek yoghurt

This recipe uses normal pizza toppings but for those wanting to up their veggie intake, make up a veggie pizza paste by cooking up preferred veggies and puree them with some tomato pasata/tomato paste. My kids and husband LOVED them.

Enjoy 😊

I love finding ways to make store-bought foods more naturally at home!

Here's a great example - the store-bought 'Protein Nut Bar vs Homemade Nut Bar!

First, look at the ingredient comparison. Way more listed in the store-bought bars vs Homemade.

Second, look at the nutritional table. There's almost 3 times as many carbs in the store-bought compared to homemade, as well as more fat.

This recipe makes 12 bars so replace store-bought with homemade when writing up your meal plans for the week! They're so yum!

Time for another delicious and nutritious alternative to the traditional banana bread!

This recipe uses oats (gluten free if required) bananas, eggs, maple syrup and baking soda. Optional add-ins could be choc chips or walnuts (I used walnuts on the top half of my loaf so that my daughter could take the 'nut-free' section to school...SO good!).

(Recipe makes 12 serves - nutritional info is for 1 serve of 12). Enjoy!

Donations can still be made throughout August so if you would like to contribute either click the link https://www.dryjuly.com/teams/get-around-fitness-dry-july
