Shout out to EVERYONE who recently celebrated 10 years of Saltwater Community Centre with us πŸŽ‰

As you all know, the community centre has such a special place in my heart. Its the place where we started running weekly classes back in 2016... and in so many ways, it’s where the heart of Unite Dance Studio really began.

So to be back there a decade later, surrounded by our beautiful dance community, and wider community, felt incredibly special.

It was one of those moments where you can’t help but pause and think about how far we’ve come... from those early classes, to the friendships formed, the dancers who have grown up with us, the families who have supported us, and the countless memories we’ve made along the way.

Celebrating Saltwater Community Centre in that space felt like such a full-circle moment. A reminder of where we started, what we’ve built together, and how lucky we are to have a community that continues to show up, support one another, and make Unite what it is today.

Thanks to Bob, Fiona and the team for all of your support throughout the years. I'm forever grateful to you guys!

And the deepest thanks to all of our current dancers who jumped at the chance to perform at the event. It means the most to me that you were part of this milestone celebration. β€οΈπŸŽ‰

Ya'll know that when these kids hit the stage... it's about to GO OFF πŸ’£

Moment of truth though.... I did take a pause about mid-way through the semester, when I was teaching them their Disco routine... and thought to myself... have I asked too much of these kids!?? 🀣

For context: I was choreographing a Hip Hop routine for them with alllllll the grooves and foundations (hint: that's already quite the challenge for a 6yo) but then I was insisting they do it with BIG. DISCO. ENERGY. πŸͺ©πŸͺ©πŸͺ©

Every Hip Hop dance always challenges dancers to find rhythm, musicality, and coordination all while learning how to move together, as a crew.
We know this.
Add in a disco vibe (which, let's be honest, is not the norm) and suddenly they were asked to bring even more energy, expression and fun to every single moment.

So. I paused for a second.
Asked myself... "Am I crazy?"
And then I read the room, and said to myself.... "nahh, they've totally got this" πŸ˜†πŸ’ͺ

And you bet, they did.

It was the funkiest, sparkliest, most fun performance ever....who knew disco and hip hop could be friends!

Id say it was quite fitting that your second routine was called "I'm The GOAT"....
Because indeed, you are all the GREATEST OF ALL TIME!

Well done legends, ill remember these dances (and the way you all smiled doing them) for the rest of my days ✨️

Watching these guys take on their K-Pop inspired routine last year........ almossssst made me consider putting a K-Pop class on the timetable permanently. 😝

Their K-Pop dance challenged them to bring together super sharp hip hop foundations, crisp and clean formations, strong musicality, and that bold and polished performance quality that K-Pop is known for.

This group had to work on moving as a team (pfffft easy!) and also hitting details with precision, keeping their energy high, and performing with confidence from start to finish... and to absolutely no ones surprise... they absolutely rose to the occasion.

Like they do for every single dance they do.
Year after year.
Their work ethic is like no other!

Forever inspired by you guys πŸ’•
Well done on both of these performances.

And for the record... no, it wasn't a "Kpop Demon Hunters" dance. It was O.G. Kpop!! You know, the good stuff! πŸ˜‰πŸ€©

The moment when you get to wear a red tutu πŸ₯Ή

Its just ... special.
Cant really explain why.
It just is.
When you put it on, you know.

But if anyone deserved a red tutu, it was these beautiful Firebirds πŸ”₯

We are always constantly reminded that Ballet asks so much of young dancers.... patience, discipline, strength, focus, and the willingness to work on the smallest details over and over again.
It challenges them to keep trying when movements feel difficult, to stay present when their bodies are tired, and to find artistry within structure and technique.

This group constantly demonstrated that discipline and willingness last year.
And their performance was a beautiful reflection of that journey they'd been on. You could just see how hard they'd been working in class week after week... their lines, their control. It was stunning.

They have so much heart. And we have so much love for these dancers.

Can't wait to see what you've all been working on for our next performance 🫢

Every Monday, our littlest Hip Hoppers come roaring in to the studio, and man... I just love their energy!

It's 30mins of non-stop questions, giggles, big emotions and BIG moves, every single week πŸ˜‚

It always reminds me just how special this time in their lives is...when they dance without overthinking, celebrate every little achievement, and throw their whole hearts into absolutely everything they do πŸ₯Ή

Their confidence grows week by week, and by the time they get to the Showcase, you cant help but watch them and think "wow, these kids are amazing"

And they are! Their performance is always a highlight.

But the joy, excitement and chaos they bring into the room on a weekly basis, and their journey of learning to dance, is honestly my favourite thing with these kids 🫢

Well done superstars! You are always FANTASTIC!!

I was going to write something about how special and wonderful it is when it's "their first ever dance concert" πŸ₯Ή
And then.... I actually paused and looked again at the little ones in these photos....and realised, infact, most of them were seasoned pro's at this particular performance! πŸ˜†

Can you believe it!? To be so little, and yet so experienced on the stage!

Well, I still think its special.
Every performance always is.
Whether its your first one, or your hundredth one.

My favourite thing with little ones is their beaming faces when the audience cheers and claps for them.
They always look so chuffed and delighted.
It truly makes my heart do cartwheels!

And then, the hilarity when myself or Miss Olivia have to trot out onto the stage to hustle them off, because they dont want to go! πŸ˜‚

There's just so much joy in a showcase day.
And I think, especially so, for our littlest dancers.

Gosh, we adore you all!

Something in my soul shifts a little when I look at these photos. ✨️

There is nothing (and I mean nothing) more magical than all of our Adult dance classes.
I really believe that.

And if you know... you know.

You all create such a sacred and safe space in each class. And through all of your ups and downs, your self-doubt, your worries, your moments of humour and joy and growth... each year you prove again and again that you're more capable than you ever thought you were.
And it is the greatest honour to be your teacher and witness it all. πŸ₯Ή

So thank you all, my Lyrical ladies, for having such patience with me and with those skirts last year... it took some extra deeeeep breaths and time and effort to make it all work, but MY GOD it was worth it and it was freakin beautiful!!!!!

I say it every year, but... it was easily your best one yet.

YOU ARE ALL SO WONDERFUL!

That's it. That's all I have to say, or I'll start crying happy tears.

Looking forward to seeing you back in class tonight!

Whilst we're talking about things that are hot on my heart ... ❀️‍πŸ”₯

Let's talk about these girls. Doing, THE CAN CAN!
Oh. My. Heart. 😭

My first ever paid job as a dancer (at the age of 16 🀫 shhh πŸ˜‰) was doing the Can Can, at a French restaurant in Toorak, on Bastille Day. πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

The Can Can is next-level exhausting, yes, but its also just the MOST FUN ever.
The surge of adrenalin that would charge through my veins whenever that music started ⚑️⚑️⚑️ Oooft. There's nothing like that rush!

Sharing the Can Can with you all was another special moment for me last year, and a memory I'll hold on to forever.
As I stood in the wings, watching you run out on the stage as that music started... I felt that same surge of adrenalin (i can't help it now πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ it just happens) but also an equally massive surge of pride!!!

Thank you for giving it your all. And for working so, so hard in every class.
You are all growing into the most extraordinary dancers and entertainers!
Your stage presence is second to none, and your professionalism as dancers continues to amaze me.

Teaching dancers like you all, and sharing moments and memories like these with you, is easily the most rewarding part of my job. β€οΈπŸ€πŸ’™

P.S. shoutout to Ben + Pranav, thanks so much for jumping in to this routine to help with those amazing lifts!!! Legends!

A moment for this beautiful dancer.
Who we are always in awe of. πŸ₯ΉβοΈπŸ€

How is it that she keeps getting better with every single performance, you may ask???
Well.
Let me tell you.
This girl works. her. butt off!
Non stop.
Hours upon hours upon hours, at home and in the studio, practicing, practicing, practicing.

She honestly has a kind of dedication and commitment that cannot be taught. She just keeps choosing, everyday, to keep working towards her goals.

W, you are such an inspiration.
You have so, so much to be proud of.
And one day, perhaps beyond dance, I hope you have the gift of being able to look back at this time and believe for yourself that you truly are capable of doing ANYTHING you put your mind to. Anything!!
Because what you've achieved, just in these last few years in dance, is undeniable proof of that.

You're amazing.

We are always and forever your biggest fans πŸ’œ

I think that one of the greatest privileges of being a dance teacher, is passing on all of the knowledge and the history of dance that was once passed along to you.

A core childhood memory of mine is going to my Nanna's house and, whenever I was given the choice, I'd always put on the VHS of the original Riverdance show.
I'd watch it on repeat for hours, completely in awe of Michael Flatley and Jean Butler.
It was so beautiful to me.
I was just obsessed with Irish dancing.
(Still am, to be honest.)

And then, when I got a bit older, I remember how blown-wide-open my world was 🀯 when my dance teacher handed me a burned CD to take home and watch, with Bob Fosse scribbled across the label.
I still have it to this day.

Gosh, I watched that disc over and over and over. And almost instantly, the love for Fosse was real. It felt like a whole new, magical world I'd just discovered and knew that was where my heart belonged. ❀️
Most of my friends idolised pop stars and celebrities.... I idolised a man who revolutionised Jazz dance πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

So now here I am.
Feeling like the luckiest girl in the world, because I get to go to "work" and share all the things that I love!
I get to talk about all my obsessions that shaped my whole world when I was their age.
How proud I felt, to say to these girls, "have you ever heard of a man named Bob Fosse"? πŸ₯Ή

It really is an honour.

Thank you, beautiful dancers, for listening so intently, for treating every class like the special experience that it always is, and for dancing your little hearts out every single week.
Sharing all this with you and more was a really special moment for me, that ill remember forever.

And so.
You're all part of it now.
The collective of people who know about this little slice of dance history.
Enjoy it.
Share it whenever you can.
I hope, like I have, that one day you get to reminisce about how this changed your world πŸ’™πŸŒŽπŸ’š
