Amateur Wheelchair Joust – Official Rules

•Objective
🏆 Knock your opponent off balance, disarm their lance, or strike their shield cleanly to score points.

🤺 The goal is impact skill—not injury.

•Equipment
♿ Manual wheelchair with approved safety frame and lance holder.
🛡️ Shield mounted on arm or chair.
🪵 Lance made of lightweight wood, foam, or breakaway material.
⛑️ Mandatory helmet and protective padding.

•Starting Position
📏 Competitors begin at opposite ends of the arena lane.
✋ Both hands must be on the wheels at the start.
🚦 Start begins on the referee’s signal.

•Charge Phase
💨 Competitors propel themselves forward using their wheels only.
❌ No external pushing or motor assistance (unless in a separate powered division).
🎯 Lance must remain in the holder until engagement distance.

•Engagement Phase
🪵 At the marked line, competitors may grab their lance.
🛡️ Shield must be held facing opponent.
⚡ Competitors attempt to strike the opponent’s shield.

•Scoring
🟢 1 point – Clean shield strike.
🟡 2 points – Breaking opponent’s lance.
🔴 3 points – Knocking opponent off balance or stopping their forward motion.
🏆 Instant win – Opponent drops lance or leaves chair

•Safety Rules
🚫 No aiming at head, neck, or wheels.
🚫 No grabbing opponent or chair.
🛑 Referee may stop the match anytime for safety.

•Match Format
⏱️ Best of 3 or 5 passes.
🔄 Competitors reset after each pass.
🥇 Highest score wins.

•Straight lane: 15–25 m long
•Minimum width: 3 m
•Padded side barriers
•Clearly marked engagement line

5. Match Procedure

•Hands on wheels until engagement line.
•Lance must remain mounted until engagement line is crossed.
•Competitors attempt a single clean strike per pass.

6. Legal Target Zone
Shield only.
•Torso shield area if worn.
•No strikes above shoulder level.

7. Illegal Actions
•Striking head, neck, or hands
•Targeting wheels or frame intentionally
•Physical grabbing or pushing opponent
•Early lance removal

8. Scoring System
•1 point – Lance contacts shield cleanly
•2 points – Lance breaks on opponent shield
•3 points – Opponent stops or loses control
•5 points – Opponent drops lance

9. Victory Conditions

•Purpose
🎯 Provide a fun, safe, confidence-building jousting game for children.
🤝 Focus on coordination, sportsmanship, and friendly competition.

1. Eligible Ages
👧🧒 Ages 6–12 years (age brackets recommended: 6–8, 9–10, 11–12)
🧾 Parent/guardian consent required.

2. Required Equipment
🚗 Pedal-powered ride-on car (no motors or batteries)
🪵 Foam or pool-noodle lance (lightweight, flexible)
🛡️ Foam shield attached to arm or front of car

⛑️ Mandatory safety gear:
•Helmet
•Elbow pads
•Knee pads

3. Arena Setup
📏 Straight lane: 8–12 metres long
🧽 Soft surface (grass, gym mat, or rubber flooring)
🧱 Padded barriers on both sides
⚪ Clearly marked “Grab Line” in the centre

4. Starting Procedure
🚦 Riders begin stopped at opposite ends.
✋ Both hands on steering wheel.
🪵 Lance must stay in holder at start.
👨‍⚖️ Referee gives clear countdown: “3…2…1…GO!”

5. Movement Rules
🚲 Riders must pedal their own car.
🚫 No pushing with feet on the ground once moving.
⚡ Safe speed only—no reckless steering.

6. Engagement Rules
📍 At the centre line, riders may pick up their foam lance.
🛡️ Riders attempt to tap opponent’s shield only.
🚫 No aiming at head, hands, or face.
🚫 No grabbing the other rider or car.

7. Scoring
🟢 1 point – Tapping opponent’s shield
🟡 2 points – Knocking opponent’s lance away
🔵 Bonus cheer point – Best sportsmanship or funniest moment 😄

8. Victory
🏆 First to 3 points wins

9. Safety Rules

🛡️🚗 Tiny Knights League — Toddler Push-Car Joust Rules (Ages 2–5)

•Purpose
🎯 Encourage fun, movement, and imagination in a completely safe, non-impact game.
😊 Focus on play, confidence, and laughter—not competition.

1. Eligible Ages
👶 Ages 2–5 years
👨‍👩‍👧 Parent, guardian, or adult helper must remain beside the child at all times.

2. Equipment
🚗 Foot-to-floor push car (Flintstones-style, no pedals or motors)
🧸 Ultra-soft foam noodle or plush lance (very lightweight)
🛡️ Soft foam or plush shield attached to car front with Velcro
⛑️ Recommended safety gear:
Helmet (strongly recommended)
Soft knee and elbow pads

3. Arena Setup
🌱 Flat grass, foam mats, or indoor gym floor
📏 Very short lane: 3–5 metres
🧽 Soft foam barriers or cones on each side
⭐ Bright centre “Tap Star” marker

4. Movement Rules
👣 Children move by pushing with their feet on the ground.
🧑 Adult helpers may walk beside them for balance and steering support.
🚫 No running pushes by adults.

5. Engagement Rules
⭐ When children reach the centre star, they gently tap shields.
🪶 Only light taps allowed—no force.
🎯 Target = shield only.
🚫 No hitting faces, bodies, or cars.

6. Scoring (Optional – Fun Focused)
🌟 1 point for a gentle shield tap
🎉 Bonus cheers for bravery, smiles, and costumes
🏆 Everyone receives a sticker, stamp, or “Tiny Knight” certificate

7. Match Length
⏱️ 1–3 gentle passes maximum
😄 Stop immediately if a child becomes tired, upset, or distracted

8. Safety Rules (Most Important)
🛑 No collisions allowed
🧑 Adult must be within arm’s reach
🧸 Foam/plush equipment only
🧯 Immediate stop on referee or parent signal

9. Theme & Fun Extras
👑 Children can wear capes, crowns, or knight helmets (soft materials)
🐉 Add cardboard castles or friendly dragon decorations
🎵 Play cheerful medieval music
