Gotta feel for the fi****ms community in NSW and ACT. Having already watched WA push through its own contentious overhauls, seeing NSW follow suit with mandatory caps and forced buybacks feels unnecessarily punitiveโand completely unbacked by evidence.
โSo much for a "unified national consensus." The reality is that other states and territories have already rejected these deeply flawed cap schedules.
SSAA (WA) State President & National VP Paul Fitzgerald has previously highlighted that these forced buybacks tie up huge numbers of active police officers who, instead of targeting vetted, licensed citizens should be focused on actual criminal activity and frontline crime enforcement. It shows a blatant disrespect to legal owners who have invested tens of thousands of dollars into their sport and livelihoods.
โ๐ด Arbitrary caps punish vetted, law-abiding citizens while ignoring the real issuesโintelligence failures, radicalisation, weak sentencing, and border enforcement. Multiple independent reviews cited by the SSAA show zero empirical link between numerical ownership caps on licensed individuals and a reduction in violent crime or terrorism.
โ๐ด Fixed buyback schedules rarely reflect actual market value for rare or customized fi****ms. Worse, legal owners are left entirely out of pocket for custom gunsmithing, specialized optics, reloading gear, now-unusable ammunition, and newly redundant high-capacity safes.
โ๐ด Arbitrary caps completely disregard the practical realities of farmers and primary producers who rely on specialized tools for legitimate pest control and livestock management across expansive properties.
