I had so much fun at Happy Hearts Childcare and Kindergarten Petrie Reid St. today! I spoke to the Senior Toddlers, Pre K and Kindy kids about water safety at the Pool and Beach. We danced l, did role playing, played games and read some books about Boo and his friends.

Shout out to Kids Alive do the Five for the resources.

I’m so proud of the job I do, swimming really is a skill for life in both sense of the word.

Today, we join the global community in raising awareness about the importance of water safety. We're going blue for World Drowning Prevention Day.
AUSTSWIM are committed to raising awareness around the importance of vital swimming and water safety skills to prevent drowning, and aim to share and educate as many new teachers to the sector as we can to reduce preventable deaths.

Anyone can drown, but it can almost always be prevented. Yet every year nearly a quarter of a million people lose their lives to drowning, and almost 82,000 of them are children aged 1 to 14 years.

We are committed to providing a skilled workforce across the country – By joining us and over 400,000+ AUSTSWIM Teachers who have taught and continue to teach everyday you will help us educate today for a safer tomorrow.

Watch my son, swimming super shark Charlie, while he swims 4 x laps of breaststroke (28m). Charlie is nearly 6 years old (that’s right, he’s still 5!) and can now swim 4 x laps of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. He will graduate this term from me here at Funshine and continue his training in a larger pool, to build endurance and get to squad level.

While camping at Bribie Is. over Easter I had the brilliant idea that I should be running some of my safety week classes at the beach instead of in the pool! We could use our life jackets and put our skills to the test in a real world situation - using our boat and/or our kayaks as part of the lesson.

Now I’m no fool, so we won’t do it while it’s cool. I’ll wait til December when the weather is hot, because in April it is definitely not. 🤭😜

ETA: Now that it’s past 12:00 - I must confess - I’m happy to have ‘got’ so many of you on my favourite day of the year - April Fools Day

Safety week began today here at Funshine Learn 2 Swim. It’s so important to expose students to different aspects of water safety and swimming - we do this each term and the kids (and parents) LOVE it!!
