Week 20 Results and announcements
Saturday 11th September – Club Championship Finals
The day started with very strong winds to test the players but moderated after lunch, and with the course in excellent condition players had to be at their best to match their opponents, with just a small lapse meaning the difference between winning or losing a hole.
The new Club Champion is Alex O’Dea after a impressive game against Levi Perkins finishing 5/3 with both players hitting some amazing shots in the course of the match. Both these players have had a very successful season winning many competition days and Junior events and lowering their playing handicaps to 1 and 11 respectively. Alex having just turned 18 years old last week and Levi 15 years old together with Lydiah Borowicki at 14 years old are repaying their benefit of our Club Junior Program with their performances.
The B Grade match between President Jeff and Captain Mal was very evenly balanced until Mal’s renowned chipping talent deserted him on the 25th hole and a very errant tee shot on the next hole forced the match to the 27th, where despite a long and successful last ditch put, it was matched by Jeff to finish the match 1 up on their last hole.
The C Grade match between Nic Hams and Allen Smith turned into a gruelling marathon but Smithy was eventually able to seal it on the 29th hole.
The Women’s Champion for the second year in a row is Lydiah Borowicki after triumphing over Narelle Frost with a talented display of golf when their match concluded with Lydiah six up with four holes to play.
Congratulations to all the new 2021 Champions.
Sunday 12th September we had two teams compete at Jamestown at the re-scheduled Northern District Group Pennants. News just in is that Levi had the best nett score of the day and our number 2 team of Phil Summers, Greg Perkins, Shane Perrott and Henry Crossley was runner-up in the handicap section, a great effort in the reported horrendous weather conditions of the day.
Next Saturday 18th September our Club will compete at the Orroroo Open for the Nutrien Harcourt/Oakley Trophy in conjunction with the final round of the Jim Davis Memorial Triangular Series. Peterborough is just a whisker behind Jamestown at the moment and it will be great if we can reel that in to win the series.
