πŸ₯‹ Interstate Training – Learning Beyond Your Home Dojang 🌏✈️ One of the great benefits of being part of the First TaeKwonDo family πŸ‘Š is the opportunity to train at any of our affiliated training centres across Western Australia and South Australia.

πŸ“Έ In this photo, Instructor Greg from our Brentwood (WA) Dojang is pictured after training at our South Plympton (SA) Dojang during a visit last month (20/05/2026). Greg had the opportunity to train under First TKD Chief Instructor John O'Brien πŸ₯‹ and was warmly welcomed by the South Plympton students and Black Belts, making for a fantastic training experience.

πŸ† Greg began his TaeKwonDo journey in 2006 at our Brentwood training centre and earned his 1st Dan Black Belt in 2018. He is currently preparing for his 2nd Dan Black Belt Examination in 2027 under the guidance of Master Instructor Vernon Low.

πŸ’¬ Instructor Greg commented that the opportunity to train under Chief Instructor John O'Brien was both a privilege and a source of great motivation as he continues his journey towards 2nd Dan. He also praised the South Plympton students and Black Belts for their warm welcome, friendship, and support throughout his visit. 🀝

🌟 Training at different dojangs provides valuable opportunities to:
βœ… Learn from other instructors
βœ… Experience different teaching styles
βœ… Build new friendships
βœ… Gain fresh motivation and inspiration
βœ… Become part of the wider First TaeKwonDo community

πŸ‘Š Remember, as a First TaeKwonDo member, you are welcome to train at any of our WA or SA training centres as part of your membership.

Success in TaeKwonDo is not measured by how quickly you reach your destination, but by the dedication, resilience, and commitment you show along the journey.

Earlier this month, thirteen of our 1st Kup students and two junior Black Belts challenged themselves at the Pre-Grading Check (PGC), an important stepping stone on the road to Black Belt. On average it takes between 7 to 10 years of active training to be invited to attend a PGC.

Throughout the afternoon, WA Chief Instructor Dane Meade tested the applicants across all aspects of their training, including techniques, patterns, sparring, self-defence, destruction/breaking, and overall martial arts knowledge.

Every participant demonstrated determination, discipline, and a willingness to push beyond their comfort zone. These qualities are what truly define a martial artist.

We are delighted to congratulate the students who have earned the opportunity to sit for the upcoming Black Belt Examination on 14 June 2026 under Master Vernon Low. This is a significant achievement and a reflection of many years of hard work, perseverance, and dedication.

For those who were not successful on this occasion, remember that every challenge provides valuable lessons and every setback creates an opportunity for growth. The path to Black Belt is not a race. Continue to train consistently, apply the feedback received, and trust the process. Your time will come.

At First TaeKwonDo WA, we believe that excellence is built through effort, character, and persistence. Every training session, every challenge overcome, and every goal achieved brings our students one step closer to becoming the best version of themselves.

Congratulations to all students who participated. We are proud of your commitment and look forward to seeing what you achieve next.

A special thank you to SI Les, SI Amie, Ins Mischa, and Ins Samantha for capturing the memorable moments from the day.

At First Tae Kwon Do, we teach and train in traditional martial arts, and we understand that strong technique begins with a strong foundation.

For every student to reach their maximum potential, we must continually develop the key building blocks of martial arts performance:
β€’ Fitness & cardio
β€’ Strength
β€’ Flexibility
β€’ Balance & coordination

That is why the first 15/20 minutes of every First TKD class are dedicated to focused warm-up and conditioning exercises designed to improve these important areas. By building the body correctly, students are able to perform Tae Kwon Do techniques with greater speed, sharper timing, stronger control, and more explosive power.

In this collage, you can see our Cockburn Adults Class working through plyometric training drills. These exercises develop explosive movement, agility, balance, and lower-body strength β€” all essential attributes for strong martial arts technique and long-term progression in Tae Kwon Do.

A strong martial artist is built from the ground up, and every warm-up is another step toward becoming stronger, faster, and more capable both physically and mentally.

First Tae Kwon Do WA - Building strong martial artists for life.

Photos from our First TKD Black Belt Quarterly Training Session in Thornlie on 02/05/2026 πŸ‘ŠπŸ”₯ What an incredible day of training, intensity and personal growth.

FTKD Black Belts from across our First TKD branches came together with one shared goal β€” to challenge themselves, sharpen their skills and continue the journey towards excellence. The atmosphere inside the dojang was electric, with every Black Belt pushing hard, encouraging each other and refusing to settle for average.

These Quarterly Black Belt Sessions are about far more than just physical training. They are designed to expose our senior students to the higher standards, pressure and expectations required for future Dan gradings β€” whether that goal is in the near future or still many years away. Every session is another step forward in building the mindset, resilience and technical ability needed to progress through the Black Belt ranks.

One of the biggest benefits of these combined sessions is the opportunity for Black Belt students to train alongside members from other dojangs outside their regular weekly classes. It pushes everyone to lift their intensity, adapt to different training partners and honestly assess their own progress and areas for improvement.

Growth happens when we step outside our comfort zone β€” and that’s exactly what these sessions are all about.

A huge effort by everyone who attended. Keep showing up, keep working hard and keep striving to become better than you were yesterday. The journey to Black Belt excellence is built one training session at a time πŸ’ͺπŸ₯‹

Many thanks to our dedicated photographers: SI Les, SI Amie, SI Mischa & Ins Samantha

πŸ’ Happy Mother’s Day from First TKD WA! πŸ’ Today we celebrate the incredible mothers across all our WA branches who continue to inspire us both on and off the dojang floor. Our 2026 Mother’s Day Collage is a tribute to the women who not only encourage their children through their TaeKwonDo journey, but who also have the courage and commitment to train alongside them. πŸ₯‹

There is something truly special about a mother who leads by example. ❀️ Through every class, every challenge, and every grading, these women show their children the value of perseverance, humility, discipline, and inner strength. πŸ’ͺ They prove that growth never has an age limit and that true leadership comes through action.

Between work, family commitments, and the endless responsibilities of everyday life, our TKD mums still make time to better themselves physically and mentally. 🌟 That dedication deserves enormous respect. Their presence within our dojangs helps create the strong family culture that First TKD is proud of. πŸ‘

To every mother in our First TKD family β€” thank you for your support, your kindness, your resilience, and the example you set for the next generation. 🌷 We are proud to have you as part of our community and grateful for everything you do.

If this collage touches your heart, please like ❀️, comment πŸ’¬, and share πŸ”„ as we celebrate these amazing women today.

An unforgettable day on the sand, filled with grit, focus, and relentless energy!

Our annual Black Belt & 1st Kup Beach Training returned to Coogee Beach on Sunday 12/04/2026 β€” and once again, it delivered a powerful test of both body and mind. This session is more than just training; it’s a proving ground where students step outside their comfort zones and rise to the challenge as they prepare for the journey to Black Belt.

From the first drill to the final push, the commitment shown by every participant was outstanding. The determination, discipline, and team spirit on display are exactly what defines the standard of First Tae Kwon Do in WA.

A big thank you to our dedicated instructor team β€” Jamus, Mia, Jack, Joshua, Tavish, Tiernan, and Michael β€” whose leadership, drive, and attention to detail kept the intensity high and the group focused throughout the entire session.

Senior leadership were also present, closely observing and evaluating those working toward their Black Belt. The level of effort and concentration from candidates made it clear β€” the future of our school is in strong hands.

Special appreciation to SI Marlyn, SI Mischa, Instructor Samantha, and Tamara for capturing the day so brilliantly. The moments they’ve documented reflect the true spirit of the event β€” resilience, unity, and hard work.

Make sure you check out the gallery β€” the images tell the story better than words ever could.

On 21 March 2026, Albany played host to the most recent Great Southern Belt Examinationβ€”an important event that brought together students and instructors, from First Tae Kwon Do for a day defined by progress and strong martial arts standards.

Led by WA Chief Instructor Dane Meade, the grading provided a platform for students to demonstrate their readiness for advancement. Throughout the examination, participants displayed a high level of preparation, with precise techniques, powerful kicking, and well-executed hyungsβ€”both contemporary and traditional.

Students also showed excellent awareness and control in defensive timing, along with thoughtful strategy in both set and free sparring. These qualities are a clear reflection of the solid fundamentals developed through consistent training in our traditional system.

Well done to everyone who achieved their next rank. Your discipline, determination, and dedication continue to strengthen not only your own journey, but the wider First Tae Kwon Do community.

FIRST TKD (WA) Black Belt Dan Exam Highlights πŸ₯‹

Take a look through some moments captured from our recent Black Belt Dan Examination, conducted on Sunday 8th March 2026 under the direction of Master Instructor Vernon Low.

In First Tae Kwon Do (WA), progression to higher Dan ranks is not something that happens overnight. It is earned through years of consistent effort, resilience, and a commitment to refining both skill and character. Each promotion reflects not just technical ability, but perseverance, humility, and leadership within the Dojang.

Our students who graded have shown exceptional patienceβ€”dedicating no less than 8 years between Dan levels, and in many cases over a decade of continued growth. This is what true martial arts journey looks like.

We proudly recognise the following students on their advancement:

β€’ Alisha (Woodvale) – Junior Black Belt to 1st Dan (Training since 2015)
β€’ Tiernan (Brentwood) – 1st Dan to 2nd Dan (Training since 2006)
β€’ Eliza (Bassendean) – 1st Dan to 2nd Dan (Training since 2009)
β€’ Paul (Thornlie) – 1st Dan to 2nd Dan (Training since 2011)
β€’ Salvatore (Yokine) – 2nd Dan to 3rd Dan (Training since 2003)
β€’ Joshua (Duncraig) – 1st Dan to 2nd Dan (Training since 2008)
β€’ Jack (Duncraig) – 1st Dan to 2nd Dan (Training since 2008)

Each of these martial artists has demonstrated what it means to stay the courseβ€”through challenges, setbacks, and years of disciplined training.

We’re incredibly proud of your achievements and the example you set for others coming through the ranks. Your journey continues, and so does your impact.

Well done to allβ€”this is only the next chapter. πŸ’ͺ
