Moora Speedway delivered a night that had just about everything for the running of the Mark Bloxsidge Memorial Silver Cup on Saturday night.
The heats set the tone early. Scott Mallon opened proceedings with a win in Heat 1, before Troy Beckingham answered back in Heat 2. Brad Wells then made his mark in Heat 3, ensuring the field remained wide open heading into the pointy end of the night.
The Pole Shuffle brought its own drama. Beckingham came out on top, but not without twistsβLeon Woods was sidelined with mechanical issues, while Mallon was unable to take part after contact with the wall during engine starts.
Come feature time, the unexpected continued. Just six cars rolled out for the main event, but the reduced field did nothing to dull the action. Craig Burgess made the most of his opportunity, sweeping around the outside of Beckingham and Wells at the start to take control.
Behind him, Wells slipped from second to fourth early, before regrouping and charging back into third, setting up a strong battle for the runner-up spot with Beckingham.
Further back, Geoff Underdown and Mallon were locked in their own fight, while Declan Korthuis rounded out the field. With three laps to go, Beckinghamβs night took another turn, pulling infield briefly before rejoining at the rear.
When the chequered flag waved, it was Burgess standing tall with a well-earned victory and the first in his career. Wells crossed in second after an impressive recovery drive, followed by Underdown. Beckingham recovered to fourth, with Mallon and Korthuis completing the order.
A night of attrition, resilience, and opportunity; fitting for a race that continues to honour the legacy behind the name.
