Nominations are now open for Karate WA Life Membership.

Life Membership is the highest honour awarded by Karate Western Australia and recognises individuals who have made an exceptional, long-standing and lasting contribution to karate in Western Australia.

Nominees should have demonstrated a minimum of 12 years of service at a state level, together with significant leadership, impact, mentorship, innovation and commitment to the values of Karate WA.

Nominations may be submitted by a Member, Head of Style, Club or Director.

Applications for nominations this year on the 30 August 2026.

🥋 PERTH OPEN – THIS SUNDAY! 🥋

The schedule for this Sunday's Karate WA League Tournament – Perth Open is now available. Please take a moment to review the schedule and ensure you know your event times.

We would like to wish all competitors the very best of luck. We hope everyone enjoys a fantastic day of competition, sportsmanship and karate spirit as we come together for the final League event before the 2026 National Championships.

📢 IMPORTANT – TOURNAMENT SET UP

The tournament can only commence once the tatamis and competition areas have been fully set up.

We therefore ask all athletes, coaches and families competing in the morning session to please arrive at 8.00am and assist with tournament set up. The Perth Open relies on the support of our karate community, and even a small amount of help from each club makes a huge difference.

Congratulations Sensei Karen Hollings

Karate WA extends its sincere congratulations to Sensei Karen Hollings of Rei Sh*to-Ryu Karate, Rockingham, on being awarded the Ambulance Service Medal (ASM) in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours List.

This prestigious honour recognises Karen's outstanding service, dedication, and commitment to the community through her work in emergency services. It is a well-deserved recognition of many years of selfless service and leadership.

Karen is also a valued and long-standing member of the Karate WA community. She proudly represented Western Australia as a member of the State Team in both 1991 and 1993 and continues to make a significant contribution to karate today through Rei Sh*to-Ryu Karate, which she operates alongside her daughter, Ashley.

Beyond her service as a paramedic and karate instructor, Karen is also the founder of the Dogs for First Responders programme, an initiative dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of emergency service personnel through the unique companionship and support that dogs can provide. This work further reflects her unwavering commitment to caring for others, both within the emergency services community and beyond.

Karen's dedication to service, leadership, and community support exemplifies the values of respect, compassion, and perseverance that are at the heart of karate.

Please join us in congratulating Sensei Karen on this remarkable achievement and well-deserved honour.

This early closure is necessary to allow sufficient time for production and delivery ahead of upcoming events and the National Championships.
