Sunday Review Metro Division 1 against Queens Park
The season has hit its halfway mark and for Sporting Bibra Lake Football Club's Division 1 team its still been an unbeaten one, but the season is still not over and the games are coming thick and fast.
From the previous game against Queens Park, Sporting Bibra Lake Football Club scored 17 goals to their 1 goal but in the last couple of weeks the Queens Park team had changed and had been on a run of close games.
The vibe at the club when the team was warming up was relaxed but ready for the task at hand. Also due to England getting through to the semi finals of the World Cup player such as CJ Grist and Jonathan Wherrett as well as Coach Garth Higginson were upbeat for the game.
Kick off and the Queens Park team were on the back foot from the start. Shots from Richard Pool, Graham Burnett and Brandon De Sousa which would be his last game before he leaves on a free transfer to Portugal side Lisbon FC, were close to the mark but nothing was passing the strong minded defence and goalkeeper from Queens Park.
The goal came in the 15th minute with a good passage of play and Leading Goalscorer Graham Burnett scoring it and making it 1-0.
Here the game opened up, but chances were not going into the back of the net.
They needed a boost from someone. Here stood a man of excellence. It was after a deflected shot from Brandon De Sousa where the game changed. The corner was placed on the semi arc and here Nic Tan, hit it inside the 6 yard box where the Queens Park defence were able to defend it, but it wasn't to be as the ball was cleared just outside the box where left back and all star Davide Maurogiovanni hit it first time in the back of the net. Queens Park's keeper had no chance to save a bullet of ball from the left back!
At halftime we spoke to him and asked how he felt "I knew from the moment I hit the ball it would go in! I was just doing it for the team and the celebration was for the team to know that it was for them!".
2-0 and the game had changed for the good.
In the next 10 minute Graham Burnett hit one and scored. 3-0 and the team looked comfortable for a good solid lead into the halftime break.
There were chances from Queens Park but CJ Grist was up to the challenge as goalkeeper again this week.
A first goal for the Club George Widdle Robertson wrapped the first half at 4-0. He stated that he was "Just glad I managed to finally get off the mark and get my first goal for sporting bibra and hope I can contribute to some more before the end of the season as we push to win the league".
Halftime chat was short and sweet and it was about controlling the game and get our goal difference up, also that Brandon De Sousa was going in goals and CJ Grist would go upfront.
Second half began and it was a strong start from the visitors with a couple of nervy moments but Brandon De Sousa was on point to save some worldies!
A third goal from Graham Burnett made it 5-0 and out of the reach of the Queens Park team and it all ended with the team scoring an own goal.
Special Mention to Kavi Lasrado scoring an amazing goal which Goal Line technology could not help CJ Grist and then finally CJ Grist scoring eventually at the end of the game and making it 9-0.
Overall perfomance was satisfactory but with an unbeaten run still in tacked the vibe in Sporting Bibra Lake Football Club locker room could not be any better!
Cellarbrations Superstore's Man of the Match was Brandon De Sousa for his gallant effort in the sticks and on the field for his last game.
"Despite what the scoreline may suggest, it wasn't technically our best team performance. Nonetheless we enjoyed the game today and in the end we can't complain about the goals and clean sheet."
