Australian kids are spending up to 3 hours a day on screens outside school hours.

For boys specifically, the research is clear — they need physical challenge, real competition, and structured struggle to develop confidence and resilience. Screens give them a simulation of all of that. The mat gives them the real thing.

The good news: studies show that kids who find a physical activity they genuinely enjoy naturally spend less time on screens. You don’t have to fight for the device. You just have to give them something worth showing up for.

That’s what jiu-jitsu does.
