Last night on the night on the Ningaloo coast 😊

This stretch of coastline has been insane.

To the point where going to the beach and not seeing a turtle was a bit of a let down.

Honestly one of the most magical places I’ve ever been in my life but it’s time to move on to the next stage.

The Pilbara!

And I can’t wait!

The Ningaloo has a lot of things but swimming clubs isn’t one of them.

The one it does have in Exmouth was amazing but I’m ready to see more clubs and present to more people.

It all started with Onslow and now we are gearing up for a massive couple of weeks with before we head further north.

But to this amazing stretch of coastline.

We will be back.

Exmouth Swimming Club thank you for having me!

On Monday I had the opportunity to present to members of the

We managed to have a great chat about how they could use dryland training to help supplement there training and get the most out of their swimming season.

Clubs like Exmouth due to coach availability and the swimmers only get to train once or twice a week for an hour.

This combined with the water temperature going from omg it’s hot 🥵

To freezing get me out of here cold 🥶

Means they have to come up with different ways to get their training in and have a great season.

That and being 4 hours from there nearest clubs in Onslow and Canarvan means these swimmers are some of the remotest you’ll find in WA.

I feel incredibly blessed that they took time out of their lives to listen to me and hopefully this can be the start of a great ongoing relationship.

Let’s face it.

Swim camp in Exmouth does sound like a vibe to me.

Full-circle moment. ⭕️

Last Friday, I had the chance to present to two clubs that shaped me.

where it all began, and, where I spent the bulk of my swimming journey.

Over 40 eager young swimmers.
One unforgettable night.
Still feeling blown away.

Giving back to the places that raised me in and out of the pool is exactly why I hit the road this year.

Next stop: heading up north (hopefully this week!)

Right now, we’re deep in the trenches of potty training my daughter, Luna, and let’s just say, progress is... messy.

One day, she nails it. The next?

Total disaster.

And then, just when I think she’s got it, we’re back to square one.

Sound familiar?

What car draws taught me about swimming…

This weekend, I tackled what I thought would be an easy DIY project:

Installing car drawers and a fridge in my car.

It turns out that I had completely underestimated the task.

Now, both are sitting at my in-laws’ place, waiting for me to return and do it properly.

It was frustrating, but here’s the lesson: failure isn’t final—it’s feedback.

In swimming, it’s the same. You might miss a turn, get outpaced, or hit a mental wall. But every setback is a step toward improvement.

💡 Progress isn’t about perfection. It’s about consistency, learning, and showing up—even when messy.

If you face setbacks, remember that they’re part of the journey.

Last week, I was in Karratha with the Northern Swimming Association, pushing swimmers through tough sessions—but we didn’t just train hard, we trained smart.

Before every session, we used vertical jump testing to measure readiness scores. This told us how well each swimmer had recovered so we could adjust their programming on the spot—giving them the best possible session without burning them out.

💡 Some days, they were fresh, and we pushed them harder.
💡 Other days, their scores told us they needed lower intensity, more technique work, or a different stimulus.

The result?

Better sessions, higher session intensity, and better outcomes for the swimmers involved.

Don’t make this common mistake just before the Rottnest Channel Swim!

A member of the Swimming Strength & Performance exclusive Whatsapp group asked me what to do with their gym training before the South32 Rottnest Channel Swim

I get this question every year from people who have been told to drop gym 2 to 4 weeks before the swim.

Watch the video, but for the love of God, do not do that.

It’s not tapering.

It’s uneducated.

Regardless of your age, ability, or goal for the swim, if you took the sensible option of doing a swimming-specific strength training program to help with your preparation, your strength training plan should lead you up to the week of the event.

The risk you take by stopping strength training altogether during this critical time is too high!
