We are approaching the club's 40th season and the new season which is just over a month away.
We have been training in the City Beach Upper Oval nets since last week when the weather has allowed us.
-
Training is from 4:30pm until it gets too dark - we are putting in 3 teams again this season and will be looking
to welcome back players, new recruits and would love to see any ex-players wanting to make a return.

So no matter the skill level come on down and hopefully we can add to the flag that ​​H Grade won last season.

We are continuing our participation in helping reduce the landfill by sending recyclables to Containers for Change with the bonus of getting a little club fundraising done at the same time.

We have just passed 20,000 items recycled - and on the way to our annual $350 target.

By now you may already know of the Grand Finals we played in last Saturday. It was quite an achievement for 2 of our 3 teams make the Grand Final after relatively easy wins in the semi final v Southern Rossmoyne for D Grade and Bayswater Postels in H Grade.

This meant 2 home Grand Finals to be played for what I believe is the first time in the club's 39 season history.

D Grade played on City Beach Lower v Scarborough - we lost the toss so Scarborough had the advantage of batting first on a ground that ran quite a bit slower than before Xmas (as per usual). Scarborough hit the scoreboard early before Jordan came on to take a wicket and slow the progress. Shane (2-24 off 😎 grabbed a couple of wickets to further slow the run rate, Josh Ko knocked off their top score before Tristan took a couple (2-33) and we finished with another to Jordan (2 for 28 off 😎 who also got a run out off his own bowling to have Scarborough finish with a handy 8-196.

Gareth (33) and Daniel (18) started off solidly followed by Jamie getting 21 but unfortunately due to us chasing a above par score needed to take some risks that eventually saw us getting bowled out for 117 with Tristan Showers 22 being the only other score of note.

H Grade won the toss and decided to bat first on a similarly slow outfield of City Beach Upper against Midland. Lachy Teakle and Jack Wheeler (30) opened the batting and put together a tasty 76 run opening partnership to set a foundation before Lachy was out for 43. Jake Codling (39) and Trevor Hart (41) put on handy run a ball scores before we tried to hit quick runs before the 40 overs ran out. We were dismissed for 189 in the last over - putting on a very tough score for Midland to chase.

Things weren't necessarily going to go fully to plan - it was a Grand Final after all. Mitch Rees (1-15 off 5) bowled well early and got the opening wicket with the score on 35 - but a few other overs went for a few to have the score on 1-68 and a few nerves going around. Levi Kau took the 2nd wicket before Jack Wheeler (3-6 off 4) and Harry Kau (3-20 off 6) destroyed the Midland middle order to effectively put the game to bed. Wade Croome and Scott Schulz finished off the game with a wicket each to give the club our 15th flag in 39 seasons.

D Grade and H Grade had home semi finals yesterday - knockout finals v the 4th placed team. As we know the clear Minor Premierships matter little in these sorts of games where if you are a bit below par on the day you are quickly looking at a winter break to contemplate what went wrong.

D Grade were on the lower City Beach oval v Southern Rossmoyne who we tied against about a month or go in an away game that finished in the dark at 7:20pm - we won the toss and decided to bat first. Unfortunately we lost Daniel Brandis and Jamie Wood early-ish to have us at 2-17. Josh Monaghan (15) and Gareth King steadied the ship including a big 6 to Josh before he was out leaving the score at 3-40.

Captain Tristan Showers and Gareth then put on 64 in sensible batting combined with good running between the wickets - ironically ending with Gareth being run out with a direct hit for 40. Tristan (58) continued with his innings with James Boekeman (31 off 28). Happy hours saw some good runs from Niel Smith, Josh Ko and Jordan Brock with a big last ball 6 to Xavier Car seeing us finish at 8-190 off our 40 overs on a slow-ish outfield.

Southern Rossmoyne started their innings poorly with James Boekeman (2-19 off 5) taking 2 early wickets to see them at 2/7. A mini partnership was ended with 2 wickets to Josh Ko (2-24) and another to Jordan Brock (1-13 off 7) leaving the score at 5-44. A direct hit run out to Xavier Carr ended a repair partnership.

Shane Attard (2-23), Tristan Showers (1-21) and Clive Tilbrook (1-15 off 😎 finished off the game to see Sothern Rossmoyne all out for 116 and a 74 run win and Grand final berth was ours - against Scarborough almost certainly on City Beach Lower.

H Grade had to move from their usual spot on the Lower Oval to there slightly unfamiliar Upper Oval for their semi-final with the Lower Oval being used by D Grade but it proved no great hinderance against Bayswater Postels as Jake Codling and Thomas Walsh grabbed an early wicket each after we won the toss and decided to bowl first with Mitch Rees (0-12 off 😎 being also hard to score off.

2 for 18 soon became 5-60 with Jake (2-22) picking up a 2nd wicket followed by two to Daniel Gandy (2-16). Tom (3-10), Trevor Hart (1-20) and Scott Schulz (1-2) continued the pressure ending with Bayswater 9-92 off their 40 overs.

The chase started a little shakily with us losing Lachy Teakle and Warren Gandy early to have the score at 2-22. But Jake Codling (21) and Jack Wheeler 47no steadied the ship with the former being dismissed shortly before the required target was knocked off - sending our boys into the Grand Final next week against Midland (likely also on City Beach Upper)

City Beach Green Range Cricket Club's D Grade and H Grade one day teams have both finished on top of their grades. This means that both D Grade and H Grade Semi finals will be held at City Beach Ovals (D Grade on Lower and H Grade on Upper) this Saturday 14 March 2026 starting at 12.30pm.

A quick summary of the 3 wins on Valentine's Day games - which is meritorious with people everywhere being distracted by the State of Origin game on the same day

D Grade had a top of the table match at home v Mt Lawley Inglewood knowing a win would sew up the Minor Premiership

We had trouble losing wickets early before Josh Monaghan (55) and James Boekeman (30) coming through with a 65 run partnership and Josh Ko putting on 22 in the last few overs on a ground that has slowed down as per usual this time of the year leaving us 8-152 and a slightly below par total.

After Mt Lawley got off to a decent start at 3-72 - but we pulled back their progress keeping them to 9-128 after their 40 overs ran out - with Shane Attard 3-19 and Josh Ko 2-19.

We got off to a decent start with an opening partnership of 42 before losing both openers - but a 66 run partnership between Jack Wheeler (91 off 102) and Alex Daly (24) pushed us towards 6/193 off our 40 overs.

Mitch Rees and Thomas Walsh got us 3 early wickets before a run of 6s and 4s had us in a perilous situation at the drinks break 5-140 before Lachy Teakle (4-26) and Jack Wheeler (2-12) ran riot taking 6-17 to dismiss Midland for 161

I Grade were in a must win game to keep finals chances alive playing on the top oval at home against Bayswater Postels

We had to field first after losing the toss and got 2 early wickets (to Warren Gandy and David Woolfe) before Sohael Qayyum broke a 3rd wicket partnership to leave BP at 3-68. A big partnership of 80 was broken by Daniel Gandy who dismissed their top scorer on 71 which slowed their progress - finishing on 7-176 after their 40 overs. The Gandy father-son combo got 3-30 and 2-28 with dad having crowing rights over the better figures.

Both openers managed to put on a 50 each but fell in quick succession (Warren for 50 and Anthony Fisher for 55) to have us at 2-114 after 29 overs - needing 62 off 67. It ran down to the wire with Xavier Carr hitting the winning runs in the last over to finish on 51no.

Catch up game summary for the game before Xmas on Dec 13 leading into the season's main break - with all three teams scheduled to play Coolbinia West Perth.
Post game presentation of 100 game mugs to Tristan Showers (from earlier in the season) and Jordan Brock - congratulations guys!

D Grade played Coolbinia WP at Yokine Reserve with I Grade playing on the neighbouring ground - we lost the toss (very usual!) and bowled with a very good start having them at 4/31 and then 5/51 with Tristan Showers getting 3 and Clive Tilbrook 2 wickets. A partnership was broken by Jordan Brock (in his 100th game for the club) via a very nice stumping by Niel Smith. Shane cleaned up the tail to finish with 4-9 (including another stumping by Niel) and leaving us 119 to chase.

After a slightly shaky start we past the total with 7 overs left with James Boekeman top scoring on 39no. Leaving us on top of the ladder on 8-1 and a superior quotient.

H Grade played Coolbinia WP at home on City Beach Lower - CBGRCC also lost the toss and were sent out to bowl.

It became clear early that the rule of the day was to be harsh on wide calls - an early wicket to Mitch Rees followed by a bit of a partnership then a minor collapse and another partnership and the race to the 40 overs. Wickets spread around with 2 each to Mitch Rees and captain Wade Croome - and a nice run out to Jake Codling.

So into the batting innings to chase CWP's 9-151 which was a mid range target. We lost Ashaan (who was filing in) early and lost Luke Taseff (20) and Dylan Morgan (17) to have us at 3-49 and a little worried. Jack Wheeler (20) and Jake Codling steadied the ship until the latter was dismissed for 22 which triggered a collapse losing 4-7 to have us at 7-102 still needing 50 for the win.

That left Thomas Walsh who had been working really hard on his batting in the nets with Mitch Rees and they dug in and got us within sight of the 152 needed before Tom was run out for 11 with 14 needed.

Out came captain courageous who unfortunately soon left with a 2 ball duck to bring out Neil Shao who was playing as a fill in who had never really played cricket or held a bat and needed to be shown how to hold a bat or stand ready. Somehow he saw out the over (which included a no-ball and a wide) to leave Mitch Rees on strike needing 11 still.

The following over saw Mitch hit three 2s and then a last ball single to keep the strike - with Neil unsure how to run between the wickets successfully.

4 to win with 2 overs and 1 wicket left - four balls later the game was over with the winning run being a wide and a very unlikely win in front of many of the D Grade boys who had managed to get back to watch the drama.

I Grade were also against CWP away - we (shock horror) lost the toss and were sent into the field.

The team did well to restrict Coolbinia with the main obstactle being their opener who scored 57 - best bowling were 3-17 by James Dellow, 3-25 for Darren Thompson's leggies and 2-31 to Sohael Qayuum. This left us to chase 152.

In what ended up being a close game we had 5 of the top 6 batsmen get to double figures with Anthony Fisher 33 and Jake Leahy 25 but unfortunately we were bowled out in the last over 2 runs short of the tie.
