After 28 years as a Swing into Shape/Aero Dance instructor Sonia has decided to retire. It is with much sadness that Rochelle, Jane and the ladies from Aero Dance watch her step down from the stage.
Fellow teachers, Rochelle and Jane would like to pay tribute to Sonia and share some of their memories of Sonia as a teacher and friend.
Rochelle………………...
For 24 years Sonia and I have been Aero instructors and friends. While the friendship will continue the many hours of making up routines, organising Gala’s, and meetings through out the year will be a thing of the past.
Over the years Sonia has created many of my favourite routines, Bad Boys, Candyman and Footloose just to name a few. She has also provided me with ideas and inspiration to create me own routines. When Gala included “Party Pieces” I was privileged to be involved in several of them created by Sonia, Ladies Night and Devil Gate Drive. And the Teachers routine was always great to do, All that Jazz, Red Dress and my first as a teacher, She Bangs.
We were also a team when it came to the Swing/Aero Camps. For 10 years we got together outside of the class for a weekend with many of the ladies to just relax and dance. Each camp had a theme, Halloween (Fortune teller), “P” theme (Post box), Christmas (Santas helper), and the Hat shirt & tie theme (nice legs!!).
Sonia, it has been a wonderful journey and you now commence a new one. Thank you for your assistance, inspiration and dedication as a Aero teacher.
Keep on dancing. Rochelle x
Jane……………...
I started going to Sonia's classes in the 1990's and became addicted straight away! She inspired and encouraged me to embark on the teacher training journey and although it was a challenge, it was one of the best things I have ever done. That was 18 years ago and I haven't looked back, so thank you Sonia! Over the years we've spent many hours making up routines together, been on lots of camps and weekends away together, and had plenty of fun and laughs along the way :) We have shared many highs and lows as both colleagues and friends, and I am forever grateful for her unwavering and unconditional love and support. Sonia, I will miss having you as a fellow teacher, but I know that your friendship will always be there. Enjoy your retirement, you deserve it! Love Jane x
