A fleet of 27 boats took to the water today, although "took to the water" may be a generous description for the first part of the afternoon. With just 2 knots of breeze at the start, there were moments when it felt like the boats were considering anchoring and waiting for tomorrow! Thankfully, the wind gradually filled in as the race progressed.

Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for the temperature. The mercury stubbornly refused to climb above 16.6°C — positively Arctic conditions by West Australian standards! 🥶

Congratulations to today's placegetters:

🏆 Mid Week B Fleet
🥇 Fastest Tydings (T Kint) – also Fastest Boat
🥈 Abacus (B Foster)
🥉 Jazz (A Kanther)

🏆 Mid Week A Fleet
🥇 Kite (R Heeks / S Robinson)
🥈 Thistle (B Huybens)
🥉 Team Saab (H Schmitz)
⚡ Fastest: Black Betty (G McNally)

🏆 IRC Mid Week Fleet
🥇 Cone of Silence (M Crier)
🥈 Highlander (H Coulson)
🥉 Team Saab (H Schmitz)
⚡ Fastest: Black Betty (G McNally)

🏆 International 2.4mR
🥇 Koolinda (R Campbell)
🥈 Maarli (S Anderson)
🥉 Get In Line (D Maher) – also Fastest Boat

A huge thank you to our race sponsor, Magic Hand Carwash, and to the volunteers who make our midweek racing possible each week.

From Thursday, 30 July to Sunday, 2 August, the Swan River will become the stunning backdrop for our Art Exhibition in support of Spectrum Space.

Each week, we’ll be highlighting one of the artworks you’ll be able to admire — and purchase — at the exhibition. This featured piece is “Summer Fruits” by Sabina Puzey. She is a mixed media artist focusing mainly on botanical art. Most of her works are either acrylic or oils, exploring lived experiences of peace, ease and softness.

Despite weather that could generously be described as “character-building”, 27 boats fronted up for Race 2 of the 2026 Winter Frostbite Series today. With cold temperatures, plenty of rain and conditions that made staying dry virtually impossible, the fleet showed great determination and good humour to get around the course.

While there may have been a few soggy sailing gloves and some very enthusiastic use of wet-weather gear, the sailors made the best of the conditions and produced some excellent results.

A big thank you to our dedicated volunteers, who braved the same miserable conditions to ensure racing could go ahead, and to Doyle Sails for their valued sponsorship of the series.

2026 Winter Frostbite Series – Race 2 Results

A Fleet
1st Closet of Silence (A Fethers)
2nd and Fastest, The Cadillac (P Chappell)
3rd RF Six Six (W Hammond)

A Fleet – IRC
1st Cone of Silence (M Crier)
2nd The Cadillac (P Chappell)
3rd RF Six Six (W Hammond)

B Fleet
1st and Fastest, En Avant (B Galton-Fenzi)
2nd Jazz (A Kanther)
3rd Achernar (C Wholley)

Congratulations to all competitors for turning up, toughing it out and proving once again that keelboat sailors are a hardy bunch. With winter only just getting started, today’s race may well have been a preview of what’s still to come! The next race is on 28 June, 10:00am start.

Today we celebrated the rich history of Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club with the running of the 2026 Charter Day Time Trial.

A special thank you to our new Charter Day sponsor, Postrak, for supporting this iconic event. We also acknowledge and thank the Greville-Collins Family, whose generous sponsorship helped make this event possible for the past 31 years.

The Charter Day Time Trial was first held in 1994 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the granting of the Royal Charter to Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, and it remains a highlight of our annual power boating calendar.

Twenty-two boats took to the course today, navigating 18 checkpoints in a challenging test of precision and navigation. Thank you to all competitors and to our wonderful volunteers, especially Chief Starter Sandra Whelan, Ian Clarke and Lyn Prescott, together with all those who assisted with checkpoint duties throughout the day.

Congratulations to the winners of the Havana Trophy (Handicap Results):

🥉 3rd Place – Sirius (David Groucutt & George Larkins)
🥈 2nd Place – Azure (Stephen Lewis & David Anderson)
🥇 1st Place – Xindi (Geoff Wells & Dianne Clarke)

The coveted Charter Day Trophy, together with the prize generously donated by Postrak, was awarded to the boat with the Least Points Lost:

🏆 Charter Day Trophy Winners
Azure – Stephen Lewis & David Anderson
Points Lost: 9

Congratulations to all competitors on another successful Charter Day event and thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success.
