Thanks to Football WA for digging this up! 4th division champions 1978! And one day soon NPL champions? 👀 ⏳️ Who has some memories of our title winners of '78?
FRIDAY FLASHBACK
With North Beach just one game away from a return to the State League when they meet Swan United on Saturday, today’s Friday Flashback takes us back to 1978, the last time the club featured in the competition, then under their former name Stirling United.
That year, the club finished seventh in the old Third Division, but were forced to withdraw at the end of the season. Ironically, one of the clubs to replace them in 1979 was Wanneroo, who are now battling to retain their State League status in Saturday’s other play-off against Morley-Windmills.
The 1978 season was memorable for more than just North Beach’s exit. Olympic Kingsway claimed their first State Championship, while Stirling Cracovia earned promotion back to the top flight by winning the Second Division. Lathlain Meazza, now part of Bayswater City ,took out Division Three, and East Perth Vardar were crowned Division Four champions.
