It still blows me away that something I started here in Perth is now helping 8-ball players on the other side of the world improve their game.

Different countries. Different standards of play. Different challenges.

But the players who come to PSC generally want the same thing — 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫.

𝐅𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 — 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧.

One miss becomes a restart. A poor score leads to forcing shots. You begin rushing, cueing harder or chasing a result instead of learning from what happened.

Before long, the session has stopped being productive.

The goal isn’t to never feel frustrated. It’s to have practical tools that stop frustration from controlling what happens next.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀?

Not always on the final ball.

Not simply because the pocket rejected it.

And not always because you were unlucky.

The final miss is the easiest moment to see. It isn’t always the first thing that went wrong.

The plan may have become unclear. The position may have reduced your margin. One rushed decision may have turned a controlled finish into recovery mode.

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲.

The story you repeat about your game becomes the evidence you look for.

Keep telling yourself you choke, miss or never get the run—and every mistake will confirm it. Change the language, and you’ll begin noticing the progress too.

Be careful what you tell yourself. Your game is listening. 🎱

𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗢𝗙𝗧𝗘𝗡 𝗗𝗢 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗪𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗘 𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗧? 🎱

That was my latest student poll — and 76% said occasionally.

For me, the important point is that the decision should be made 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 you get down. Once you’re on the shot, the job is to commit and execute. If genuine doubt appears, come back up rather than trying to re-plan while you’re already in position.

Clear decisions create commitment. Commitment gives you a much better chance of producing the shot you intended.

𝗚𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀.

You reach the final ball.

You rattle the pocket.

You finish one positional mistake away from the clearance.

It feels like proof that you’re nearly there.

And sometimes it is.

But if your frames keep ending in the same way, “almost” may be hiding the real pattern.

The final miss is often just where the problem becomes visible.

The frame may have become fragile three shots earlier—when you chose the wrong pattern, accepted poor cue-ball position or rushed a decision.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗿.

𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁.

Review your last three “almost” frames backwards and ask:

𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦?

Last weekend at the Jonnie Walker Classic in Adelaide, I met Jeenian Stevens. 8 year old daughter of class act Craig Stevens, who made the final in the tournament - great player.

On the Saturday I saw Jeenian a couple of tables over and noticed her immediately... I was blown away with her level of cuemanship, maturity and patience. So good!!

If she continues I have no doubt she will be going far.
