Spot on 👌
You know the hardest thing about elite level sport?
You might not make it!
You might fall short!
Your best efforts may be a centimetre away, a millisecond too slow, one point too few, a couple of inches wide…
Sometimes incredible effort doesn't pay off. Sometimes you still lose despite thorough preparation...despite the hard yards.
Sometimes you don't win a medal in spite of the presence of a great team around you. Sometimes you don't get the professional contract even though you've worked harder than everyone else! Sometimes the trophy remains elusive even though you felt ready to win it.
Sport can feel deeply unfair! It can cut to the core.
So what can you do about this?
Perhaps the answer lies in perspective. Perhaps you have to look at these times of striving to be the very best you can be with satisfaction...and extract the joy from immersing yourself in what you love most. Perhaps you have to dwell on the fact that you spent your days covered in sweat and dripping with enthusiasm. And you spent your nights dreaming of future success, envisioning all it entails.
Perhaps a mind on the process with hope for the future is enough!
After all, what is life without hope? I think that's what champions in waiting are addicted to...hope! And if what they hope for doesn't materialise that's ok. It's ok
when they can look back and say...I loved every minute of that. I loved striving to see just how good I could be. I loved the challenge, the stretch, the yearning for better. I loved that…
Perhaps that’s enough!
