After a great sunny day of test and tune on Saturday, we woke to light drizzle and overcast Sunday morning. Nervous conversation about changing to wets followed but dried up as quickly as the track did.
With the practice session still not having a dry line the pace was steady and safe.
Race 1 and Joshua Mathers/Paul Joshua on the Angry Outfit were P2 on the grid with the Historic Competition Motorcycle Club (HCMC) WA trialling a round to round progressive grid this season. So our finishing position from round 1 became our start position for this round.
A great start saw us holeshot turn 1 and the chase was on with Corey Blackman/Jero Joyce moving rapidly through the field and passing our team on lap 2 with a great block pass under brakes at turn 6. Josh and Paul didn't let Corey/Jero get away though and were lapping only just behind at similar pace.
Lap 4 and on the same corner of the earlier overtake the rear sprocket bolts sheared ending our weekend.
We may have got it fixed for further racing but builder owner, Rick Hanger and team manager Paul Matthews decided a full inspection and strengthening of parts would be a better decision in the long term.
Josh Mathers gladly jumped on the back with ex Australian and state champion, Lindsay Fagan to finish his weekend.
Congratulations to the other teams on the day with great, close racing again being a permanent theme all day. Shaping up to be an exciting, hard fought season.
The team achieved a new PB of 1,20,6 just being outdone by MBRT Marshall Brother’s Racing Team #56 at 1,20,5. Later in the day times of 1,18 were seen with Team Cush Racing smashing their previous PB with Wells/Cushnahan guiding the bike.
Special thanks to Martyn Dunbar-Stuart and Jeffrey Hord for helping out around the pits 🤘
