Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mums, grandmas, nannas, aunties, and mother figures of Wanneroo Pony Club💐

And to the riders who are mums to their horses and ponies too — thank you for the love, care, patience, early mornings, feed runs, cuddles, and special bond you share with your four-legged babies. 🐴🤍

Thank you for everything you do to make our pony club community so special.
We hope you all feel celebrated and appreciated today. 🌿

WELFARE WEDNESDAY | Is your horse actually fit for what you’re asking it to do?

It’s a simple question, but not always an easy one to answer.

Many horses are worked at a level at home that doesn’t match the demands of competition. Then on the day, they’re asked to jump full courses, gallop, or produce sustained, quality work… without the fitness to support it.

The result can be:
• Fatigue and reduced performance
• Slower recovery
• Increased risk of injury

Like any athlete, horses need progressive, targeted training to build true fitness. That means developing both endurance and strength, and preparing them for the intensity of the job, not just the basics at home.

It’s not about doing more for the sake of it.
It’s about doing the right work, at the right time, for the right purpose.

👉 We’ve explored what fitness really means, why many horses are underprepared, and what to consider in your training in our latest article.

Meet the coaches!!!

Name: Blake Acacio

Occupation: Instructor at Showgrounds North Riding School & Disability support worker

Hobbies: No time for hobbies outside of work, study and horses 😂

Qualifications: Studying Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing & Pony Club C Certificate

What you love about pony club: I always loved the sense of community and support within each club. When I was at Pony Club everyone was always cheering each other on no matter how big the jumps were or how behaved (or naughty😅) your pony was. I was often in-between horses and was always being offered a ride at rallies or competitions without even looking!

Interesting facts: Despite their unpopularity I love Standardbreds! I’ve produced 3, one who was the first horse I ever took to pony club when I was 12, one who sadly passed away in 2022 and the third is my current horse! All 3 ended up being really fun horses with great jumping ability! (despite everyone’s doubts)
