What a great investment!! Huge kudos to Tracey Roberts - WA Labor for Pearce and Patrick Gorman MP for dropping by the Wanneroo BMX and pledging $1m for a much needed new track. Wanneroo BMX Club holds coaching/gate nights 4 times a week and up to 100 kids race Friday night’s – playing their sport in a safe and accessible space – who will hopefully grow up riding bikes and being better road users for life (with perhaps the odd national champ or Olympian).
Despite its popularity, there are only a handful of dedicated facilities in the metro area to play the sport of cycling. The more people play the sport – and in particular kids – the more likely people are to use cycling as a mode of transport; something that has so many benefits for our communities. But we need safe accessible sporting facilities. Yes, its hard to build them (cost, NIMBY blah blah), but cycling gives you 2 bangs for your buck – physical activity/recreation and transport. Bingo.
Both major political parties are now supporting a new track at Wanneroo. Thank you for their vision and well done Wanneroo BMX. Next step - get local schools to incorporate the track into their school sport curriculum. Wouldn't that be huge!!
Chris Tallentire MLA Northern Beaches Cycling Club
The Wanneroo BMX is a vibrant community club that brings together more than 100 families per week. They provide a space for children of all ages to enjoy their favourite sport whilst keeping fit and staying social. I have been a strong advocate for this amazing club over the years and understand the need for operational facilities, adequate lighting, and a space to hold not only our local competitions, but state series and national competitions. I would like to thank President John Bennett and his amazing Committee for their commitment and dedication to ensure the continued success of the Club
It’s my pleasure to announce that an Albanese Labor Government will commit $1 million for much needed upgrades at the track! Thank you to Patrick Gorman MP for joining me.
