Penola Football & Netball Club

Penola Football & Netball Club Oldest Football Club in Country South Australia Established in 1865! Since then, the closest they have come to capturing another flag was second place in 2007.

Penola Football Club claims to be able to trace its history as far back as 1865, but details of the club's early years are sketchy. Since World War Two the club has competed in five different leagues and associations, and enjoyed premiership success in three of them. Arguably its greatest achievement was to win three consecutive flags in the powerful South East and Border Football League during th

e early 1950s. More recently, in 2001 the Southern Eagles broke an eleven year premiership drought by overcoming Mundulla by 25 points in the Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara Football League grand final. After losing the next season's grand final to the same opponent, they added a second KNTFL flag in 2003.

AMANDA ‘GINGE’ WURST – 250 GAMES

Ginge joined the club in 2005, having moved from Kangaroo Island. She is a strong midcourter with explosive speed, pinpoint accuracy when feeding into the goalies, and a toughness that makes her presence known on court.

Ginge gives a strong contest and is quick to shut her opposition down. If there is a loose ball, you can guarantee she will be there chasing it up. She works tirelessly, puts her body on the line and is always there when her team needs her. An invaluable member of the team, Ginge leads by example and will always have her teammates’ backs.

Off the court, Ginge is a true team player. She has held several committee roles and is always more than happy to help out wherever required. She has a swag full of individual awards and has been given captaincy honours on several occasions.

Ginge has also enjoyed plenty of team success throughout her time at the club, including an incredible five B Grade premierships, as well as being part of the 2024 C Grade Premiership team, where she was also named Best on Court.

An incredible achievement and a truly deserving milestone for a superstar of our club.
