Hi everyone, as many of you know I haven't been well for over a year now my health has been going down hill. It was my initial plan to stop teaching in 2019 however I had a few loyal students to help assist me and needed me to share my knowledge and lessons with so I kept teaching for another year. Unfortunately now the time has come for me to retire from teaching. I will still be here for my students for advice and answer your questions however there will be no more karate lessons from me. For those that wish to continue their karate path please inbox me and I will give you some options on which direction you can go. I wish you all the best of luck in your future! Bowing out with one final OSU to you all!

It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement from teaching. I will continue until the end of November, then unfortunately due to not being well and the body not working like it use to I have decided to take my final bow. I am still here for all my students to give advice and feedback. It has been an honour to share karate with you all. Osu

BELT COLOURS UPDATED:
The Shotokan Karate-Do International Association has now officially changed the coloured belt system. There has been some talk for a while to make this decision. There was going to be 3 kyu rank belt colour changes, however the association eventually only changed 2 colours.
• The first being the 9th kyu White belt/yellow stripe has bow changed to Yellow belt/white stripe.
• The second being the 3rd kyu Red belt has now officially been removed and changed to a brown belt. The reason for this change is because many styles that we associate with consider the red belt to be a very high masters rank, not only in Shotokan organisations but a number of styles have now removed the red belt from the kyu system. This will save a lot of confusion.
So that means there are now 3 brown belts, the first being 3rd kyu, the 2nd kyu brown belt will now have a black tip placed on the end of the belt and the 1st kyu brown belt is the same with a black stripe all the way across the belt.
Note: All members that currently hold a belt of one of these colours is encouraged to keep their current belt until their next grading. The belt you currently hold does not change your kyu level.
Here is the updated belt system:

Here is some information that you will need to know if you take Shotokan seriously. Some facts and good tips and also where you can check out which kata you will need to learn in order. Osu.
- Sensei Hoyle

Kata are the pre-arranged sets of movements in which the karateka defends against several imaginary attackers. Each movement of a kata represents a self-defense technique against a potential opponent. These self-defense "applications" are traditionally called bunkai (analysis), although the word oyo...

Hi folks, unfortunately due to illness I won't be accepting any new students. I will however keep a few of my serious one on one students. The good news is that I have nominated Senpai Michele to instruct a class and to accept new students for me. If you are looking to start up lessons in Shotokan don't hesitate to send a message to the Shotokan Karate Club Tasmania page. Thank you kindly for understanding. Osu,
