Congratulations to our Super Coach Karen, who has very deservedly been inducted into the 2026 East Gippsland Shire Council Volunteers Honour Roll! Since the inception of the Kingfisher Dragon Boat Club, Karen has worked tirelessly to coach, train and mentor our members, not to mention the untold hours preparing, and managing our regatta campaigns. Kaz, our club is going from strength to strength and you are the main reason why. Thank you for everything you do to get us out on the water 😃👊

Congratulations Coach Karen!

Congratulations Coach Karen!

🌟💙 Let’s celebrate the incredible people who give so much to East Gippsland this National Volunteers Week.

The East Gippsland Honour Roll shines a light on the remarkable volunteers who make our communities thrive. From emergency services and conservation to sport, arts, aged care, youth programs and community leadership, the diversity of volunteering across our region is nothing short of inspiring.

Across East Gippsland – from Mallacoota to Orbost, W Tree, Lakes Entrance, Bairnsdale, Paynesville and beyond – volunteers are showing up, stepping in and making a real difference. Every name on the Honour Roll represents a story of generosity, commitment and community spirit.

This is what makes East Gippsland so special – people helping people, in every corner of our region.

To every volunteer, thank you. You are the heart of our community, and we are proud to celebrate you.

Last Regatta of the 25/26 season done and dusted. The weather started terrible, but the smiles were infectious.
The Kingfishers and friends (paddlers from Warriors - Albury Wodonga Dragon Boat Club Inc , Melbourne Flames, YYC Yarrawonga Yacht Club, Bravehearts, Footscray Falcons and Peninsula Dragonflys - Dragon Boat Club) got the silver in each of the events we entered. Senior B Women's 10's, Senior B Open 10's and Senior B Mixed 20's.
Very proud Coach and President at the end of the day.

Meet Judith.
Judith is a valued member of the Kingfisher Dragonboat Club Paynesville. She is always quick to volunteer and help out, enjoys paddling local and away at regattas and brings a positive energy to the Club.
We sat down with Judith to get to know her paddling journey a little more.

What drew you to dragonboating?

🐉 I have always enjoyed padding (mostly kayaking and white water rafting) and dragon boating seemed like perfect team sport.

What is it that keeps you coming back?

🐉 I love spending time on the water and the team camaraderie is always fun!

How long have you been dragonboating?

🐉I have been dragon boating on and off for 3 years.

What has dragonboating taught you?

🐉Dragonboating has taught me how to work as a team (in sport) and how age is no barrier for sporting achievements!

What challenges if any have you had to overcome?

🐉I have had to overcome some injuries (not from paddling) as well as build my general fitness and endurance.

Describe one of the many highlights you have experienced through dragonboating.

🐉one highlight I remember well was experiencing my first ever race start in a dragon boat! Another was experiencing my first regatta and seeing all the different teams compete

What would you say to anyone considering giving dragonboating a go?

🐉Definitely give it a go, especially if you are not into team sports or sports full stop! It’s wonderful to get out on the water and support team members!

If you'd also like to increase your fitness, make new friends, enjoy being out on our beautiful lake and see where dragonboating may take you then email
