ANNOUNCEMENT: Townsville Multisport World Championships not taking place in 2022.

Organisers of the Multisport World Championships have today announced that the event will not take place in August 2022 as planned due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated international travel restrictions.

“We know this is an immensely disappointing outcome for our triathlon community in Australia, however it gives us clarity for Age Group athletes who are beginning preparations for Townsville 2022,” said Miles Stewart (Triathlon Australia CEO). "We will continue to deliver our World Championships Qualifying Events as planned on the national calendar for the 2022 Australian Multisport World Championship Team and are working with World Triathlon to confirm the replacement events.

✖️Exercise & Immunity: Do’s & Do Not’s.

Now more than ever people are turning to exercise as a way to cope with COVID-19 and their imposed isolations.

Accredited Exercise Physiologist explains how to best support immunity through exercise: “Research has shown that regular bouts of moderate intensity exercise supports immune system function, whereas sustained high intensity exercise has been shown to suppress immunity and increase risk of infection. A number of studies have shown the risk of Upper Respiratory infections are increased after prolonged strenuous exercise events, something to be aware of particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.” He goes on to explain that now is the perfect opportunity to take a step back, maintain what you have and look after your physical and mental health (another immune function support!).

We recommend you grab your Garmin, hit a socially distanced trail and aim to train in Heart Rate Zones 2 & 3.

If you have any questions about how to train during the lockdown, reach out to Sam who will be happy to help.
