The Annual Report reflects on the tremendous achievements made during 2024 and highlights the benefits of an active and connected University community.

From outstanding performances at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics πŸ₯‡πŸš΄β€β™€οΈβ€‹ to increased visits to our fitness πŸƒπŸŠβ€‹ and recreation ⛷️​ facilities, there was much to celebrate, which is a credit to the students, staff, alumni and volunteers of the University sporting community.

EAP Spo(r)tlight ⭐: Congratulations to our current and former elite student-athletes who are making big waves in their respective sports!

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’¨ Sarah Billings (Architecture Alum), has earned selection for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo later this year. At the recent Shanghai Diamond League event, she become the second fastest Australian woman in history over 800m. With a time of 1:57.83, she was just 0.05-second outside of the national record – set by none other than fellow Architecture Alum, Catriona Bisset at the 2023 London Diamond League meet.

πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸš΅β€β™€οΈ Odette Lynch (Bachelor of Arts), is taking the cycling world by storm. In the past six months, she has finished ninth in her first Road Nationals, Second in the National Track Scratch Race, Second in the National track Team Pursuit, and Third in the Oceana Track Team Pursuit. Currently residing in the US, she is racing with Fearless Femme.

πŸ‘­πŸ₯‰ Eleanor Cooney Hunt (Juris Doctor and MUAC) and Alannah McInnes (Bachelor of Arts), won a bronze medal for Victoria at the recent Australian Athletics Nationals event.

πŸ‰πŸ¦˜Tiarah Minns (Bachelor of Science Alum), made her second appearance for the Wallaroos in their recent test in Fiji. Previously, Minns was a MURFC representative and was also a Rugby Young Achiever Award winner in 2020.

Congratulations to alumna Grace Brown on receiving the Kitty McEwan award at the 2024 Victorian Sports Awards!

Grace had her most successful year on the bike in 2024 which included a gold medal at the Paris Olympics in the Women’s Road Individual Time Trial (ITT).

πŸ₯‡ Dual Olympic medalist, Jemima Montag (Master of Public Health) won her sixth consecutive Australian 20km Race Walking Championship in Adelaide. She was also joined by fellow Paris Olympian Rebecca Henderson (Doctor of Medicine) at the podium!

πŸ™ŒTwo-time Olympic rowing champion, 2010 Chef de Mission of the Australian Olympic Team and former CEO of AusCycling, Nick Green (Bachelor of Horticulture alum), was appointed to the Board of the Australian Sports Commission for his contributions to Australian sport!

We're HIRING! Are you a student who's attended an MU Sport event and wondered "Wouldn't it be nice to work behind the scenes at these events?"

Well, now is your chance! We're looking for an energetic, outgoing, and passionate Activations and Events Officer who can deliver excellent customer service skills when engaging with students at our activations and events. Someone who not only thrives in a team setting but is great at taking initiative too. A love for sport and volunteering is a big plus!

The winners for the 2024 Club Awards are:

Basketball Club - Big V Women's Div2: The Club Team Performance of the Year goes to Melbourne University Basketball Club, Big V Women’s Div2. The women's team faced adversity with a coaching change mid-season, narrowly making the playoffs with a buzzer-beater in their final game. They won all three finals against RMIT, Surf Coast, and Wallan to claim the Championship. Jordan Allen is here to accept the award tonight.

Mohit Rudraraju - Tennis Club: Mohit secured major victories in both team and individual tournaments, leading the Club to notable successes.

Luca Di Lallo - Football Club: Luca was the VAFA Under 19 leading goalkicker with 39 goals and won the competition's Best and Fairest Award.

Junaid Hossain - Tennis Club: Junaid has shown exceptional dedication to the team and athletes. His understanding of the sport has improved players' skills, contributing to competition wins and improved rankings.

Kendo Club: Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Kendo Club hosted significant events, including a seminar with the Korean Consulate General and visits from Japanese Senseis. They introduced a new beginner course, boosting membership by 50%. The Club excelled at the Victorian Kendo Championships, with members competing at the National and World Championships while supporting student-athletes through gradings.
