Meet Ben Davis (Head of Teams)
Ben has been part of the Steelers community for around 14 years (over 25 seasons!) and in that time has done just about everything — coaching boys and girls teams from U8s right through to U19s. These days, it’s not unusual to see him coaching 4 teams in a single season (yes… really 😅).
For the past 6 seasons, Ben has been our Head of Teams and a Committee member for 8. Quietly holding a lot together behind the scenes so teams can get on the court and do what they love.
And if you’ve ever had Ben as a coach… you’ll know he has his own style. Passionate, direct, and fully invested — it’s part of what makes him, well… Ben.
What many people might not see is just how much work goes into that role.
Leading into each season, Ben works tirelessly with coaches, committee members and volunteers to pull together teams - doing his best to balance skill levels, friendships, development and fairness.
Like many of us, it all started with his kids wanting to play. The Steelers needed a coach… and he put his hand up. That moment turned into years of giving back to a club that brings people together and helps kids grow through sport.
A few fun facts you might not know:
- Lifelong basketballer and a big Magic Johnson/Lakers fan 🏀
- Coaches multiple teams while also having four kids playing at the club (busy is an understatement!)
- Spends downtime at Bonnie Doon with two Highland cows (Herbert & Norm) and a small army of dogs 🐄🐶
- Theme song? Shout — which feels about right 🎶
When asked what he loves most about the Steelers, it’s the same thing many of us feel - a genuine, passionate community where everyone just wants the best for their kids.
And his advice for players?
Keep it simple: have fun, learn the fundamentals, don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Enjoy every moment.
