Due to unforeseen personal issues, I will be stepping away from the club effective immediately. As there has yet to be an AGM no management is in place. Currently the season will be on hold.

Better late than never! Match Report for Saturday the 14th of March,

Saints 6/75 (21.5) def by Scorchers 6/82 (17.0) Oval, Tom Price.

With the COVID-19 being the hot topic of the past fortnight, it's been easy to miss the fact we played our last game for the season the past Saturday.

Coming off a good win the previous weekend, Saints spirits were high heading into a clash against less fancied Scorchers CC.

Rocky skippered his second game of the year and got Saints off to a good start winning the toss and putting the opposition into the field.

Saints were found wanting in the top and middle order again which has been the story of our season. The opening pair putting on just 7 before the Scorchers bowlers struck.

Despite the early blow, the batting order showed its doggedness as Dan Michel 14 off 32, Logan Bruce 3 off 30 and Brenden Rockliff 3 off 19 soaked up near on 10 overs of pressure between them. Young Logan saved his most determined knock til the last game with the enthusiastic junior soaking up a good 5 overs out in the middle, a great sign of his development with the bat this year.

Saints were handed some good fortune with Rebels youngster Brad Roberts throwing on the gear and contributing a very handy 29 off 14 balls to give the travelling side a defendable total of 6/75 off a ball shy of 22 overs.

In typical Saints fashion, our bowling shone through ensuring an entertaining run chase was on the cards for Scorchers.

Cyle opened up with the ever tricky Dan Michel and the pair struck early and often to have the Scorchers very much on the back foot. The duo reduced Scorchers to 4/16 and turning the game back in the Saints favour.

Unfortunately a pair of partnerships took the game away from the Saints in the end but not before the skipper added another scalp to his belt and proved how handy his neat leg breaks could be against even the most set of batsmen. A pair of catches to the skipper and a sharp stumping to Welchy finished off a close run match with Scorchers prevailing by 4 wickets in the end.

Thus the season comes to a close for the Saints. It was a rebuilding year for the club after losing a number of players in the off season. We added several quality players back into the group over the course of the year and hopefully this trend will continue during the off-season as the town welcomes more new families into the community. We played with spirit and remained very competitive despite often being short numbers wise on field. Congratulations are in order for those who participated this year, without you this club would not have survived such a turbulent off-season. Rest up, stay healthy and hungry and hopefully we'll see you again come the start of Summer!!

Match Report:

7th March, One Day round 8 vs Towns, Clem Thompson Oval.

Towns CC 9/86 (32.2) def by Saints CC 3/92 (20.0)

Round 8 saw the Saints on the road again with a clash against 3rd placed Towns CC at the fast Clem Thompson oval in Tom Price.

Bad luck saw Saints reduced from a heady 12 men to just 8 bodies before the match and firmly placing the playing group on the back foot from the get-go.
The Skipper frustratingly was unable to improve his record at the toss with the full strength Towns electing to bat first, a decision that would later prove to be their undoing.

Despite the task placed in front of the Saints, an upbeat side took to the field with a chorus of vocal support from each player greeting the batsmen. A air of confidence and optimism was evident with the fielding side and would soon be richly rewarded.

Cyle Jones backed up some superb cricket in the last month by forcing the opposing skipper to chop on to his stumps with the score on just 5. The following overs saw one of the finest spells of swing bowling the club has seen with Joel Bellotti snagging 4 wickets in 3 overs including seeing himself sit on a hat trick only to be denied by some questionable wicket keeping.

Following on from the previous away encounter, spin was deemed appropriate to continue on from an excellent performance from the opening bowlers. The ever keen Brenden Rockliff continued his renaissance with the ball snapping up the co-captain with a brilliantly flighted ball on leg stump. Both Rocky and Bevan Jones contributed 11 overs for just 15 runs and ramped the pressure up with 5 maidens between them. At one stage Towns where reduced to 7/25.

Young Marco Cecich and Logan Bruce where thrown the pill after the drinks interval and bowled with confidence and poise, both unlucky on several occasions to snare a wicket. The pair conceding just 22 off their combined 7 overs.
A couple of sharp catches behind the stumps off C.Jones and J.Bellotti wrapped up the Towns innings in only the 33rd over. On a sour note, C. Goesch appeared to sustain a serious knee injury upon his dismissal causing great concern from both sides and was aided from the ground. Saints wish him a speedy recovery.

Saints kept things fresh batting wise with C.Jones and M.Cecich getting the run chase underway in a stylish start. Young Marco's senior cricket apprenticeship went un-rewarded yet the youngster has made strides with the playing group this season.
Cyle yet again proved to be the rock at the top notching a fine 33 not out and sharing in a pair of 40+ run partnerships with J.Clifford and later alongside his father B.Jones with both scoring 15 and 18 respectively.

Special mention should be made that J.Bellotti finished with 5/16 off 6.2 overs including a pair of catches and C.Jones who chimed in with 3/31 off 8 overs and a catch as well as 33 not out with the bat.

Saints wrapped up the total in just the 20th over to give us a famous and rousing victory. It will surely give the playing group acres of confidence considering the side were so short on numbers. Sadly, the crew 2 and 3 boys will more than likely sign off for the season after this match but the torch will be now passed to the crew 1 and 4 fellas with a very winnable clash against Scorchers CC to come on the 14th of the month.

Let's keep the momentum going through the week! see you at training.

Match Report:

22nd February, One Day Round 6 vs Rebels, Clem Thompson Oval.

Rebels 7/258 (40.0) def Saints 7/207 (34.5)

Saturday's match saw Saints make a return to One Day cricket on the back of a washout from TC Damien and the bye weekend.

A mild 35 degree day greeted the sides at Clem Thompson oval in Tom Price for the round 6 clash. Saints new skipper Joe Clifford lost the toss and subsequently took to the field for the opening innings.

The bowling innings got off to a promising start thanks to some quality at both ends in the form of young Cyle Jones and Shane Mcdonald who kept the openers tied down, limiting Rebels to just 36 off the opening 10 overs. Cyle Jones spearheaded the breakthrough by snaring a sharp LBW in the 7th over.

As the afternoon heated up, so did the Rebels batsmen. An eventual Century and half century where notched up by the fall of the 2nd wicket. An impressive display of swing bowling saw Cyle Jones return a 3 fa for his efforts. Saints quartet of spinners toiled in the conditions but were rewarded for their patience with wickets to Bevan Jones, Brenden Rockliff, Sean Larkin and Joe Clifford.

A seemingly insurmountable task lay ahead for the Saints as they looked to chase down 259 for the sides first win in the One Day format.

Father/son duo Bevan and Cyle Jones were tasked with getting the side off to a good start in the run chase. They failed to disappoint with a brilliant 105 run opening partnership. Bevan Jones wound back the clock with a swashbuckling 56 and was ably supported by Cyle Jones who produced his season best of 64 through some equally fine stroke play. A quick 39 was added by the skipper but unfortunately the bright start was unable to be capitalised upon with Saints falling 52 runs short in the end.

The match may not have gone Saint's way in the end, but was a thoroughly enjoyable and well fought contest with much to be proud of. The side put forward their highest team total and highest partnership for the season, leaving a lot to look forward to in the remaining matches.

On a more dim note, only 9 players made themselves available and this made covering a quick outfield difficult thus leading to such a large total being set.

Heads up Saints, much to play for in the remaining games and some form being shown at the right end of the season. Thank you to the players for your efforts and we'll see you down at training.
