Arafura Moo Duk Kwan

Arafura Moo Duk Kwan Martial arts school teaching the traditional karate style of Soo Bahk Do for both self defence and betterment of the self.

Focus on discipline, respect, humility and self improvement, mastery and balance of both mind and body. ABOUT ARAFURA MOO DUK KWAN
As a traditional martial art, our goal is to develop every aspect of the self to create a mature human being who totally integrates intellect, body, emotions, and spirit. The style balances both hard external techniques (Weh Gung) and soft internal movements (Neh Gung)

to create a balanced and harmonious self-defence style, suitable to all ages and fitness levels. "The basic purpose for training in Soo Bahk Do is not to injure the enemy, but instead to develop a person who is more advanced in both the mental and physical aspects of life. It is based on the various nature principles of Oriental philosophy. This kind of concept contributes to peace and happiness for all mankind." INSTRUCTOR
Jarrad Fong commenced martial arts training in 1990 and achieved his 1st Dan black belt by age 15. He is currently 3rd Dan and undertaking 4th Dan Masters grading , a four-year assessment. He has trained internationally in Malaysia, Hollywood, San Diego, World Moo Duk Kwan headquarters in New Jersey, and the 2019 Korean Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa (master level grading). He has a passion for passing on his knowledge to ensure the traditional martial arts values are upheld and continued for the generations beyond. He has instructed at Austin Martial Arts since 1998 and strives to meet the needs and goals of his students, ensuring that regardless of age, gender or fitness, the only differentiation between students is their willingness to learn.

We had the privilege to present the Master Peter Tibbits 'Moo Do Shim Gung' memorial award to Mr Louis Glassie, a 1st gup who continued to strive to better both body and spirit, in true reflection of the lessons and direction of the art Master Tibbits believed in.

We were very honoured to be joined by Mrs Pam Tibbits to see the students who have followed, and the presence and influence he still holds for us all.

The physical award holds a historic centerpiece as the timber board is a section of the original flooring from Central Dojang in Korea (11-22 Hangang Daero in Yongsan-Gu, Seoul). During renovations in 2018 the original flooring was replaced and 80 pieces were created to be held under guardianship for the connection to the Moo Duk Kwan practitioners that trained on it's surface and the history and energy it holds. Secondly, the base timber is a connection to Region 1 history and Arafura Moo Duk Kwan as the Silky Oak is a section of the flooring from Fong SBN grandparents house on East Point Road. This timber was walked upon by 4 generations of the Territorian family and a connection to the Arafura region of Australia. Together they represent the connection to both local, national, and international Moo Duk Kwan practitioners and the philosophies that Master Tibbits endeared and taught.

Whilst we miss his physical presence and insight, we feel his spirit and the legacy we cherish continues the spirit of the Moo Duk Kwan.

Soo Bahk!

The Master Tibbits memorial award has been rescheduled for Wed 13th May, starting at 6pm at Arafura Moo Duk Kwan (Bakewell Primary School).

Current and past students are all welcome to attend with special guest Mrs. Pam Tibbits to help present this award in honor of the legacy that Master Tibbits gave us.

This award has been presented to a student who has demonstrated the ethos and integrity that Master Tibbits strove for, and who has dedicated themselves over the year to become a better 'Moo Do' student. More details to come on the evening and will be shared with everyone after the event.
