Palm Beach Sailing Club’s newest members Lexy and Antoine have just completed their second 4hr lesson with the club’s newest qualified Dinghy Instructor Scott Kesteven. Lessons start with gauging skill levels and then tailoring the content to suit. Using the Hobie 18 Catamaran is the perfect platform as two students and the instructor can very comfortably and safely do on water lessons. Very low risk of capsize and comminication is easy.
The first lesson was a quiet day, perfect for Lexy who is quite new to sailing to master the basics of steering, trapeze and sail control.
Today was much more hairy with a pumping NEster testing us. Antoine has kite surfing experience and was super keen to jump head first into being skipper while on trapeze. He smoked it. Although he nearly went head first out the back once or twice. Totally expected as it was raining bullets under Barrenjoey.
These two will make a gun team and soon be mixing it in fleet racing. Mind you they’re keen to go cruising too and with more experience they’ll be safe confident sailors.
