Well done to NSJJ team representing in Japan!

Well done to NSJJ team representing in Japan!

It takes a brave soul to step into the ring in Japan. Especially a full contact event with striking, throwing and ground fighting. The training leading up to Japan was intense and the fighters were pushed to their limits. It paid off. Each of the NSJJ team was fit, fast and alert. Their training was focussed on perfecting the basics and drilling the skills over and over again. We were awarded the team of the tournament. The team was a fine representation of the NSJJ community. They were able to compete yet maintain the traditions of martial arts, including respect, courage and courtesy to name a few. Seen here are Tom Dickinson, Max Staiano, Angus Paul, Darren Higgs, Fara Nouriazari with SAW and IBJ Founder A*o Sensei; NSJJ 10th Dan and advisor. A huge thanks goes out to our sponsor Century Martial Arts Supplies Australia for supplying our gear.
Andy Sensei.

Martial Arts and fighting. The hardest skill to learn in Martial Arts is killer instinct. This skill needs to be nurtured by the teacher a little at a time. Killer instinct is not angry or aggressive. It is cold and unemotional. The Martial Artist that has honed their killer instinct is still and neutral in combat. Andy.

Northstar Jujitsu now at Paddo RSL Wednesday's and from 11.15am on Sunday

Authentic Ju Jitsu. The Japanese art of Self Defence.
All the traditional and modern systems of Ju Jitsu teach both throwing and ground moves from the beginning of the students journey. The Northstar Ju Jitsu style is a little different. Though greatly influenced by traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu, throws are not taught until the students has been training for at least 6 months. In the mean time, the beginners are taught a very comprehensive syllabus of striking techniques. So the initial defence to break balance is an immediate strike with out getting tangled up in an attempt to lock up, throw or go to ground. The 6 months gives a base level of being able to defend yourself whilst remain standing and a strong foundation to refer back to when ever the more advanced techniques do not work.

From this grounded and stable base the throws, locks and other moves can be added on once balance is broken. Continuing to train and improve, the strikes are interwoven with movement and techniques that complete the application of Ju Jitsu moves. Most of the modern Ju Jitsu systems that I have observed are hybrids of Judo, which was the first modern interpretation of traditional Ju Jitsu. Not to say that they are not effective, but most put the cart before the horse in that only include the striking to break balance as an after thought.
Andy Sensei.
