What we do at our school is heavily motivated, and also dependent, on personal development. Fundamental to this process is understanding who we are and how we relate to the world around us. This sculpture resonates for me in that sense. Art, in whatever form, can both open the mind and illuminate ideas that might otherwise go unnoticed. It is also a reminder that we can learn from all aspects of life to inform our martial art.

Also a special moment that you were able to grade with some special people in attendance. People that saw you at the beginning, through your journeys, and now. Your next chapter is now being written with all of us cheering on.

Congratulations Jeremiah on your well deserved Purple belt. It’s been a journey to get there and we have learnt heaps along the way about ourselves. The exciting thing is that this is just the start of the next phase. So much more to discover and accomplish. Also thanks from me for making me a better person along the way.

Our first ever Sc.I.T night. Everyone wrote down a Scenario, or Idea or Technique, one was drawn out at random which became the theme for the session. Tonight’s theme was “The Joy of Movement”. Much arm waving and breathing to be had from everyone involved. Thanks everyone for making the launch of Sc.I.T a great success. It will now be a monthly event, and a great opportunity to explore concepts and ideas not normally addressed in regular classes.

Hi Again,

Jeremiah has the key for the hall so training is on for those who are keen. It could be a chance to try some ideas or concentrate on a few things that you let slip over the past weeks. Good luck and have fun.

Hi everyone. I won’t be able to make it to training this week due to Covid. As a result, ScIT night will be deferred until the following Thursday (the 7th). This gives more time to come up with ideas. No idea will be left unused as any ideas not used will be used in subsequent training sessions. Stay safe everyone, catch up Soon.

Announcing the first Sc.I.T night happening this coming Thursday (31st). Sc.I.T being the not very clever acronym for Scenario, Idea, Technique. Students are encouraged to bring one of these with them to training where one is selected at random as the theme for the night’s session. Everyone is also encouraged to contribute to the content of the training session, emphasising the collaborative approach to learning. Can’t wait to see what people come up with.

Good turn outs last Thursday and tonight. Everyone learning the importance of full body involvement with even the most basic of exercises. Well done to Jess and Slats tonight for their progress in Chi sao. Mia got to whirl her staff around with the help of Jeremiah’s tutelage. Onward and upward!

‘Rolling the Ball’ exercise emphasises continuous random movement. The rule being palms must face each other at all times. This exercise teaches fluidity of movement, tempo variation, breathing and legwork. In addition, the student learns how to be creative with such a simple idea. For the student this is one of the exercises that begins the journey of self determined learning.
