Place chicken, shredded mozzarella and sliced cherry tomatoes on a sandwich press, add some dried Italian herbs or oregano. Spicy siracha hummus, lettuce and avocado ๐Ÿฅ‘

First week of Mermaids ๐Ÿงœโ€โ™€๏ธ With Soggy Feet training update!
The beginning of the year is all about swimrun training in preparation for Transcape Swimrun - the one and only (sadly) swimrun race in WA. For those of you scratching their heads, swimrun is basically the love child of Aquaman and Forrest Gump - itโ€™s an endurance sport where team of two complete a pre-defined course with multiple runs and swim stages without stopping in between. No change of clothes in between: you finish a course in the same gear that you start in, which means swimming in your running shoes and running with your goggles (hence the soggy feet ๐Ÿ‘ฃ).

The Mermaids had their shoes wet for the first time this weekend - this marks their 5th consecutive year prepping for the in March.
The team zigzagged a grand total of 15 km through intermittent runs and swim, weaving among ocean swimmers in a race and dodging landlubber abalone-hunters who only ever see the ocean on abalone-day! Not to brag, but we covered more ground that a hermit crab at a beach party ๐Ÿฆ€
Not bad for a first training session!
Now, we are off to rehydrate, get the tons of sand out of our shoes and plan our next move - stay tuned for more adventures from the soggy feet crew!

Did you know that science strongly backs up the benefits of strength training for runners?
Studies show that incorporating resistance exercises 2 to 3 times a week enhances performance, reduces injury risk, and boosts overall running efficiency ๐Ÿš€ ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

Why not trying these 4 exercises next time you hit the gym:
1. Bulgarian split squats: a great exercise that build both balance and unilateral strength, as it forces you to target one leg at the time.
2. Deadlift: a love this exercise for runners because it not only strengthens your hamstrings and glute but also your back. Deadlifts train scapula rotation will translate into stronger back muscles. This will help you to maintain a nice strong upright position for longer while running.
3. The old good squats: great exercise for building overall strength in key running muscles, enhancing joints flexibility and improving core strength.
4. Calves raises: your calves muscles take a lot of load while running and calve injuries are the most common injuries among runners so this is a must-do exercise! The strength of your calves determines your explosive power, stride and pace. Strong calves also help to keep your foot more stable when running in uneven terrain.

So, thatโ€™s what I mean when I say โ€œFill up half of your plate with veggiesโ€. Vegetables not only provide a plentitude of vitamins and minerals, and dietary fibre essential for good health, but they are also low in energy density, offering volume and weight with fewer calories.

For comparison, 2 cups of raw salad ๐Ÿฅ— (half plate) equal roughly 50 calories, while 2 cups of chips ๐ŸŸ pack a hefty 450 calories! Same volume, a huge difference in calories.
