Oxley Recreation Reserve

Oxley Recreation Reserve 300 Oxley- Meadow Creek Road Oxley. The perfect place to relax & unwind in a natural bush setting.

The Reserve has a range of equestrian & camping facilities, including horse yards and arena’s, amenities block, playground, clubroom & camp kitchen. Oxley Recreation Reserve is located on the Oxley/Meadow Creek Road, 3.5kms south of Oxley. This Reserve is Crown Land and is run by a Committee of Management (who are all volunteers). The Oxley Reserve was formed in 1865 and is a unique 47 hectare mix

of bush land and cleared areas, backing onto the King River. The upper terrace (10 hectares) is where the majority of facilities are located. This area has sandy well drained soil and is usable all year round. The lower area is flood plain and access may be restricted depending on conditions.
1281616091-oxley_picnicIn the early 1900s the annual Oxley Picnic Day would attract around 3,000 people from all over Victoria who would camp the weekend and partake in tennis, foot races, gymkhana events and games. The Reserve is still used regularly for recreational purposes today.

Happy New Year!

The 2024 Grounds Membership is now open for applications. The membership will cost $100 and run from 1 March 2024 for the period of a year.

Announcing our new grounds membership for horse riders commencing in January 2024.

As the year draws to a close we would like to wish all users of the Reserve a Merry Christmas and advise a change for riders in the coming year.

We all enjoy the lovely sand dressage arenas at the Reserve but unfortunately not everyone is paying the $5 casual fee to use them. As we all know costs have increased the past couple of years and in order to keep maintaining the arenas we now need to introduce an annual membership fee for use. More details will be available shortly but basically how it will work is that the arenas will be locked and riders who want to use them will have to sign up for a membership and pay a small fee for the year. Once the membership form has been submitted and the annual fee paid the Committee will provide the member with the code to the combination lock to access the arenas. No more scrapping around to find $5 or trying to find reception to do an on the spot EFT – one fee, paid once a year – Easy!

Our new website will be up and running shortly and membership forms will be available there. Please reach out if you would like further information.

UPDATE:

There is a 🐎 clinic on at the Reserve this weekend and the XC course will remain closed. Please be aware that this will restrict the space for other horse riding activity.

Hopefully with some better weather we will be able to open the XC course sometime next week. 🤞🏼

The Cross Country course at the Reserve is CLOSED due to the effects of the weather on the ground. DO NOT use it until further notice. PLEASE be a considerate rider and adhere to this notice! The decision to close the course is made with rider safety in mind. If riders continue to ignore this request, we will have no choice but to close the course permanently. We are hoping that as the weather improves and the ground dries out we should be able to open it toward the end of the month.

Due to the recent wet weather the XC course is closed for now. We need to preserve the ground around the jumps to ensure the course is safe for riders in the future. Thank you from the ORRCOM.

Can you spare an hour or two this weekend? We need a couple of volunteers to come to the Reserve and spread some
soft fall around the new playground. Once that is done the playground will be ready for use! 😊
