Jack and his girlfriend, Claire, moved house 🏡 because the HQ ceiling just about fell in the week prior due to water damage 😰

I have drunk more cups of water each day than tea, which is huuuuuuuuuge for a tea lover (addict 😬😅) like me.

And in our 6-week group, our mums are making time for themselves to fit their workouts in, which (if you’re a mum, you’ll know) can be reeeeaaalllly hard to do 🙌 And this superstar team of women are also adding (and sticking to 🥳) the second layer to their nutrition - adding in a high fibre breakfast 😋

👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 My colleague was telling me about how how hard his wife works on her body, but she’s NEVER been able to tighten up her baby belly. Can you relate to her pain?

And even he feels disappointed for her because he sees how hard she works.

🚴‍♀️ She goes to cycling classes, she’s at the gym 3 days a week and she eats clean.

She’s ‘a machine,’ as he calls her, and she’s lost weight everywhere but the place she carried her 3 beautiful girls 🤰

Too often we hear these stories and it’s so unfair that it’s mums who face this struggle.

Say this with me: “WEIGHT LOSS ISN’T THE ONLY RESULT FROM EXERCISING!” Confidence, motivation, reduced pain, energy, commitment, making time for you, bravery, forming new healthier habits... they’re also AMAZING results worth celebrating, just like Alice has celebrated in her testimonial ⬆️! 🥳

In fact, those overlooked milestones, like rebuilding confidence, often have a much deeper impact on your self-esteem and overall happiness than weight loss does.

👩‍👧‍👦 Most mums that I train with will say things like, “after I lose _kg, I will feel more confident, more motivated, more energetic, happier...”

Put a 🙋‍♀️ in the comments right now if you’ve said something similar.

That mindset tells you that your self-worth and happiness are conditional. It tells you that you can’t have a full dose of daily happiness until [insert result here].

Quite often, losing weight doesn’t equal happiness if you’ve reached that point telling yourself and others (over and over again) “I am not happy right now, but I will be after I lose _kg.”

🙅🏼‍♂️ Your weight IS NOT how you measure your self-worth and it’s certainly not the only result you should be focussing on.

Even as a male, I get how hard it is to ignore the social media posts that sell quick fixes and to not want them for yourself, but what’s even harder is living your life with your happiness tied to the number on the scales or on the tape measure around your waist.

📲 Inside my program, I don’t want weight loss to be the only result we celebrate.

👩‍👧‍👦 Friendly reminder: You are more than just a woman with a post-pregnancy body and you don’t have to be stuck here ⬆️

Post-partum recovery & weight loss are complex REHABILITATIVE processes that are different, but 100% necessary, for each mum. And deserve your time and attention.

🤰 One mum might 'bounce back' to her pre-pregnancy body (on the outside!) only a few weeks after having bubs, while another mum is 30 years after having kids and still struggling daily, so a blanket ‘weight loss’ program for any and all women doesn’t serve YOU.

A 4 week shred, a restrictive diet, a supplement a day might help you lose weight and feel better about your body, but they're all marketing marvels that prey on EXTERNAL insecurities, particularly weight gain: "Do this for [insert period of time] and you'll have the body you love."

And it's wrong that it's you, VULNERABLE MUMS, that those marketing campaigns target.

On top of that, they make you believe that your first focus should be on external problems and ignore the muscular and postural rehabilitation you need.

In my 5 years of training mums, most come to me because they’ve tried multiple short term fixes that didn’t work and they’re now ready to try something different.

And the first thing I do?

I start by giving these women the education they deserved 3 fad weight loss programs ago and help them understand where their body is at right now... ON THE INSIDE.

Then I work hard on a paradigm shift I hope all of my clients have:

💡💡💡 Leaving internal pregnancy related changes untouched, without rehabilitative exercise is THE ROOT CAUSE of the pains and problems they can FEEL, like neck, shoulder, back and hip pain, pelvic floor instability, as well as the problems they can SEE like weight gain.

And the funny thing is...

🙌 While I work through mending the root cause of my clients’ physical and emotional pains, they lose weight, tone their bodies, became amazingly stronger and start to feel a huge boost in self-esteem.

Imagine your friend calls and wants to meet for dinner and drinks...

⏸ (...pretend we’re in a world where it’s safe/ permitted to socialize and eat out again...)

And you say, “Love to! When and where?” without any hesitation.

Because you don’t have to be worried about picking something healthy or lite from the menu.

Because you’re not on another ‘diet’.

Because you’re not worried about calories.

Because you won’t have to pick at a salad while you longingly look at that chicken Parma your friend is eating...

💁🏼‍♂️ Sounds pretty good, right?

Eating without complicated calorie-counting thoughts or feelings of guilt.

It is 100% possible.

You CAN get there. Food is SUPPOSED to be social. It’s SUPPOSED to be enjoyable. And yes, even on your , you can have more freedom around food than you’ve ever thought you could.

👩‍👧‍👦During dinner tonight, ask your family members to fill in the blank. Research shows that happiness and resilience increase when you regularly practise gratitude, empathy and mindfulness.

Claire and I have recently bought and started a 6 month journal after reading The Resilience Project book.

🇦🇺 Like many of you, we’ve both been at home, restricted in so many ways by the current Covid rules here in Melbourne and, being complete honest, it has impacted on our mental health.

We’ve found that since reading the book and taking the time to do the reflections and questions in the journal, we’re back in the game. It’s also shown us that we have a responsibility to check in on each other, be empathetic and help each other practice things like mindfulness and gratitude.

💛 Today’s post gives you a really easy example of how to practice gratitude with your family.

💙 I’d love to know what responses your families give to ‘Today, ___________ made me happy.’

🏄‍♂️ Mine is: “Today, the heat in the sun was a great reminder that beach days are just around the corner, and that made me happy.”
