The 2023 Australian Beach Handball Championships wrapped up over the weekend. The Redlands Raptors entered 2 teams, a Mixed and Men's team. This was a year of connecting with new friends and bringing new people into the Raptors culture, with 7 out of the 15 players on debut for the Raptors.
The Men's team had a high scoring, comeback win to beat Syndey Uni, who were last year's silver medalists, to secure 5th place overall - equal the best Men's result at a national champs. This was by far our most consistent tournament for the men, being in touch to take a win in every game - there were no games we werent close. The Men's successes also included beating eventual silver medalists, St Kilda. 2024 is going to be a good year for the men!
The Mixed team, once again, was a wonderful mix of brand new players and veterans of the game, all working alongside each other. Perhaps a little bit disappointing final result of 6th, however, a win over the eventual silver medalists shows the potential of the team. The battles were always well fought andwas always a pleasure to be a part of.
The Raptors will be bigger and better next year. We are always looking to bring in new players, and whether your first year with us is only at training, or it's putting on a Men's or Mixed Raptors jersey at a national champs - we welcome you. Send a message to us if you're interested! 🦖🦖
