WESTERN UNDER 21s WEEK THREE
KENNARD PARK, WELLINGTON
SATURDAY, 18 MARCH
A fantastic day of rugby league today on neutral turf in Wellington headlined by an entertaining cup preliminary final.
A Patrick Williams field goal right on half-time put Orange ahead 11-0 at the break and they extended to a 17-0 advantage before the gritty Nyngan Tigers came roaring home.
Dallin Smith and Cale Dunn crossed with Jackson Cox converting both tries to set up a grandstand finish.
However, the Jake Blimka-coached Orange Orangutans held on for a five-point success.
They will now play minor premiers Bathurst St Pat’s in the 2023 Cup decider.
Dubbo CYMS have been a perennial force on the competition since its inception in 2021.
Today, they picked up more silverware after holding out a determined Woodbridge Cup side 26-8 in the Plate Grand Final.
Second-rower Harry Stimpson was named the plate GF MVP after a hard-working performance laced with some skill by booting three conversions.
ROUND FIVE:
ORANGE ORANGUTANS 18 (Josh Hardy, Isaac Cardwell, Ben Blimka tries; Patrick Williams 2, Max Wilson goals) defeated DUBBO CYMS 0.
