Winton update.

First of all, battery failure ended race 4 for us, it gave us hints at the start of the weekend but routinely putting our cars on the charger between races is something we've done for years to keep them topped up, a couple of times it struggled to start so a jump pack has been used to help it but clearly it reached it's limit out on the track, a new one will fix that issue.

While we had a good weekend overall a message we didn't see till the monday after made it all the better, we managed to pick up a trophy for race 3, the one we managed to climb from 10th to 4th in when a car decided it was allergic to oil and decided to sneeze it out around the track, we just happened to be one of the ones lucky enough to stay on the track till the end of the race.

We couldn't work out how we finished 4th but managed to bag 3rd place, then the penny dropped, 3rd in that race was taken by a Group M&O car instead of Q&R.

The Nimbus has performed well interstate this year, 2nd in class at Mallala and somehow managing 3rd at Winton, she's shown she's capable of holding her own against more powerful machines, but now she's due for a good birthday, mainly pulling the now tired white wrap off and getting a new coat of paint and looking at getting a new tub, the current one is showing it's age, a few knocks here and there, time to dress her up a bit💃

Maybe we'll bring the Elfin out a bit more while the Nimbus goes into temporary layup.

This sport can be cruel when it wants to be😖

Race 3 gave us a result better than we could of hoped for, starting 10th we managed to climb up to 6th off the start and hold that spot for about 3 laps, then the "fun" began, an oil spill from another competitor covered an entire lap of the track, with cars sliding/spinning off everywhere we managed to somehow keep on the black stuff, though not without a couple of buttock clenching moments😳 we managed to come home 4th.

Lady luck didn't want to be our friend for race 4, after briefly dropping to 5th off the start we soon got 4th place back and were looking promising to hold that spot for the race, but coming on to the back straight on lap 2 the Nimbus just shut down with no explanation, unable to restart the car we ended up retiring, a cruel blow on an otherwise fantastic weekend.

While that was a disappointment it doesn't define our weekend, the positive outweighs the negative, we've been able to show that our little Formula 3 is capable of holding her own against some more powerful cars at Winton, and it makes us more determined to come back a bit stronger next time.

Time to bring her home and find this electrical issue and the usual nut and bolt check.

Time for an unwind and a few months rest to get ready for the Baskerville Historics.

Apologies for the late update everyone, we'll do better next time🥺

A brief summary from yesterday, the weather just didn't want to co-operate with our tyre choices yesterday, we managed to qualify 12th out of about 20 cars while on slick tyres on a damp track, we took a gamble by choosing wet tyres in race 1 so what happened? The track dried out didn't it, catching a few out who made the same choice, we still managed to make up 6 places to finish 6th.

Race 2 we bolted the slicks back on with the track drying out enough to run them, by lap 3 the clouds opened up again and literally rained on our parade, slowly dropping back just trying to stay on the track, a spin on the last lap dropped us back to 10th, not ideal but the best we could manage in difficult conditions.

With 2 races today and what's looking like a dry day today we'll see what we can do to try and climb back through the field.

What can we say except "what a great weekend"

Michael Vaughan put in an absolutely faultless drive, winning all 5 races over the weekend, a fine job for his first time visiting Mallala, we couldn't be happier with his result 👏👏👏

Lindsay kept chipping away at the Q&R field, grabbing 6th out right in race 1, 5th in races 2,3 and 4 and 4th in race 5, and finishing 2nd in class in race 1, 3rd in races 2,3 and 4 and 2nd in race 5, securing 2nd place in Group Q Race cars, and setting a new PB lap time in race 4, 1.18.5, 3 seconds better than last year.

A huge thanks has to go to all the organisers, officials, flaggies, fire and medical crews, photographers, canteen staff and anyone else we may have forgotten, and to all the competitors and crews that attend the Mallala Historic Weekend, this event would not happen without the efforts of everyone involved, it's why we keep coming back.

Time to unwind before heading home, thanks for your positive comments over the weekend everyone, we don't always have time to reply to all of them but we appreciate them all.

Stay tuned towards the end of may for our Historic Winton endeavour.

The Elfin 500s and NG's both have milestone anniversary's, the 500's are 60 years old and the NG's turn 50 this year.

We managed to talk the owners of these cars into lining up for a couple of photo's, back on their home turf.

See? We weren't joking about flying the Tassie flag on the big island.

A couple of retirements in the Sports and Racing car field moved the Nimbus up to 6th outright and 3rd in class (Group Q Racing)

Mick had a faultless run in the K,L and Formula Vee field, starting P2 and brought the car home in P1 overall, a win on it's first race back since 2012 is a pretty good result.

Another street parade under the belt.

The NG was the most basic, cheapest car in the street show but probably had the biggest audience thanks to Mick's PR efforts, almost everyone in Mallala had a sit in the Elfin.

The Nimbus had a bit of interest too, most notably from a feathered fan🦜

The Street parade/show is always a highlight of this weekend, it allows the public to get up close and experience some great machinery.

Back in a familiar place.

2023 marked the 50th birthday for the Nimbus, last year we were able to bring it back to Adelaide International Raceway, the site of it's first race meeting.

This year the NG turns 50, but not till about october, her first race meet was also at AIR, and also the first time it has run since 2012.

The run around AIR was beneficial for the NG, only a brake balance issue to sort out but otherwise the old girl is ready to go.

Here's hoping we have a good weekend at both our cars old home ground

After spending last night in Mildura and catching up with our old friend Ray Chamberlain today, who some of our followers know is a wealth of information in our field of racing and who we bought our BeeCee Vee off way back in 2014.

Another easy day on the road for our trusty steed, the customary quarantine stop near the border at the big Dunlop tyre near Yamba, which was erected in 1985 to promote the Adelaide Formula 1 grand prix.

Next stop Adelaide.
