With a passion for surfing and surfboard design and a love for the natural beauty of wood plus a desire to preserve traditional surfboard manufacture techniques, I decided to combine everything into one art; Timber surfboard design and manufacture. For the past 15 years I have sort to learn, develop and refine the art of building a timber surfboard, from scratch, by hand.

The commercialisation of surfing has driven a performance based direction in surfboard manufacture over the past 50 years that has ignored, neglected and almost wiped out the traditional and beautiful art of hand shaping surfboards and the creation of classic surf designs. This shift has moved so quickly that some of the classic historical moments in surfboard development and in particular the Australian story, have been overlooked and unappreciated by both surfers and the wider Australian community. At Freedom Surfboards we seek to preserve and celebrate the art of surfboard design and hand shaping timber boards by creating beautiful, classic and collectable pieces of functional art.

Freedom Surfboards looks forward to having classic hand made timber surfboards return to the forefront of what is valued by modern, Australian surf culture.

Our purpose is to preserve and nurture the tradition of hand shaped timber surfboard manufacture by creating iconic surfboards that celebrate the evolution of surf design and the natural beauty of wood.
